Hiring Alumni Coaches

Does your school have former players on the current coaching staff?
If so, positives and negatives please.

Our AD/HC is a graduate of the school, and is the All Time Highschool Football Winningest Coach in the Great State of Texas. So I guess that would be a positive.

Um...it could be a good thing. Rockdale will undergo some changes but on the former staff there was 1-3 not sure.

Burnet has 2 ex Burnet football players on our coaching staff, Head Coach Bob Shipley, who is also our AD and Coach Todd Keele. Its been great for us!

It can be a bad thing if they are not good at coaching. You can be stuck with them forever because they are not gonna move home (already there) and they have a network of influential friends and family that keep them in place. Sometimes this is through the school board and comes from people who know or care nothing about football, just that this coach is their good friend or a relative of their good friend.

I think LG has like 1 male coach that is a graduate and a two or three of the female coaches are graduates. I personally say these graduates/coaches are a positive in the programs in LG.

sintons Coach V is a graduate of SHS. Coach Goetzel, i believe, is also a grad of SHS. I know that most of the other members of our staff are NOT.
We win still... so i dont care either way.

Cuero has 3 ex-players on the staff. One is the OC.
Positives. They know the kids, families and backgorunds personally.

Negatives. Their big brothers give them hell sometimes. :D
