IMO this is more with the popularity of the state of Texas tourism.

You want something symbolic of the History of Texas, many tourists choose this great symbol.

Many probably do not even follow UT athletics.

Having said this, it is nice when colleges stand pat on a good thing. Not everyone has to be Oregon.

The Dallas Cowboy star on the helmet and uniform follows that same Texas tourism idea.

That's why Houston hit a winner choosing their mascot symbol.

Also a tourism favorite.
