View Full Version : Old Rivals That Don't Play Anymore

With are the past changes in the Divisions, re-districting every 2 years, and proposed changes, are there any old rivals who don't play each other anymore, or won't play in the future? In the Bulls districts, I am always afraid we may lose Decatur one year----sure, they are our chief rival---but we go back a long ways and the fans of both towns always get motivated for the annual "Battle of Big Sandy", regardless of team records.

Alvarado vs Cedar Hill or Midlothian used to be epic showdowns back in the day...games against them are long gone, but the memories are good

Easy.

Cameron vs Taylor - Played them the first game of the season for over 20 years. Later were in the same District when Taylor fell to 3A. Stopped playing when Cameron dropped to 2A.
Cameron vs Rosebud-Lott- I remember playing them when Rosebud was just Rosebud back in the 60's. They stopped playing when Rosebud-Lott dropped to 2A. They are different Divisions now.

Cameron used to schedule Austin Westlake, Pflugerville, Leander and Belton quite frequently
Belton called it off after Cameron beat them 33-0 in the late 80's. Coach stated that it was pointless to get beat that bad by a 3A school.
Obvious reasons why they don't schedule Pflugerville and Leander anymore.

China Spring vs Gatesville Gatesville was moved to District 8 in Region 1. Lots of bad blood between the schools be it in basketball, baseball or quiditch. We just don't like each other.

Brownwood vs Stephenville! "Battle of 377".

Back before Stephenville had Art Briles (pre 1988), Stephenville was another whipping boy for Brownwood. Stephenville hated Brownwood due to the beatings they would endure year in and year out. Some of the old timers and their offspring still have a little bit of that mindset in the Ville. From that 1988 season where Stephenville tied Brownwood to current, the record is 15-6-1 Stephenville. Before that, Stephenville didn't beat Brownwood for close to 30 years. There were a couple of years where they didn't play each other due to being in different districts. Most seasons, they were in the same district. Too bad they don't play anymore.

But even before Stephenville, it was Cleburne that was Brownwood's rival. Those were some nasty games. Knock down drag outs.

All that is true. I bet this time next year we will be district mates with the division change and realingment.

Sinton used to play Taft, Odem, Mathis and Aransas Pass but they all stopped the rivalries when they went to 2A and won't schedule us anymore not that I blame them.

Port Isabel vs Los Fresnos.....the Battle of Hwy. 100. Had been playing each other since the 50's, but with LF's growth explosion(2700 students) it doesnt make much sense to play a school that has an enrollment of 600. Word is that LF will split into 2 HS a few years from now. Once that happens, the rivalry may be resurrected

Wharton-Columbia series is still current and fierce

As bay city's enrollment gets closer to 3a, that series may resume.

With Sealy and Bellville in the district and ALWAYS having El Campo on schedule, did not make sense to play another huge 4a school.

Need to double check Newton. I know of two losses in the early 70's. We beat them for the first time in '81 and that was on the 2nd tie breaker, 1st downs.

Wharton-Boling used to be a fierce rivalry until the early 1970s. The Bulldogs moved down a class with enrollment and haven't played since

That was really a surprise. Sinton also used to play Refugio early in the season but they also dropped us saying they had too many players that would get injured during the game.

Well, here is the link: http://bbs.3adownlow.com/vb/showthread.php?96132-Cameron-Yoe-Complete-Football-History-(1911-2009)&highlight=cameron+yoe+history

Actually, going back through it, I'm seeing 4-1. Most of these should be pretty accurate but there may be a few that may be off a game either way.

1974: L 7-10 in the quarterfinals
1981: W 28-28 (advance on tiebreaker) in the quarterfinals
1987: W 14-9 in the regional final
2010: W 70-26 in the area round
2012: W 39-22 in the semifinals
