Congratulations, your in a great area if your a food lover. I'd suggest the following,

Red Fish Grill on Bourbon is excellent, I'd suggest the Hickory Grilled Redfish or BBQ Oysters.
The Oyster's at the Acme Oyster House are also very good.
Dickie Brennan’s Steakhouse may very well have the best Ribeye I've ever tasted.
A Muffuletta from Central Grocery is a must as well as people watching while enjoying a Beignets at the Cafe Du Monde.

Jackson Square is a great people watching area with some neat vendors. The aquarium is nice and good place to get out of the heat for a couple hours. This post has got me thinking about another trip to NO now :) Have fun.

Make sure one night you go to the Famous Doors bar , in the Quarters. It is a hoot, great music from Live bands.

You're taking time out to eat? What the hell is wrong with this younger generation?

If you've ever watched "Bar Rescue" on SPIKE TV, there was an episode that featured a Bourbon St. bar. It is now called "Spirits on Bourbon" and it's a really cool place. Try out their specialty drink, "The Resurrection" too. Pretty good food there too, especially their gumbo.
