Rio Hondo will most likely be D2.
The 3 favorites for D32 coming into 2013 are Port Isabel, La Feria, and Rio Hondo. La Feria has the largest enrollment of the 3. Hidalgo not only lost their coach, but there are also a bunch of kids transferring out now. That program is on a downward spiral. And Progreso.....is Progreso.
Rio Hondo actually has the 2nd least enrollment. Port Isabel has 651. So there's no possible way for Rio Hondo to go D1. The only way Port Isabel could possibly do D1 is if the Mighty Progreso Red Ants, Port Isabel, and Rio Hondo made the playoffs out of D32. That won't happen though, La Feria is much better than Progreso.

Just surprised to see so many schools with 900+ enrollment being in a "swing position" to go D2, now that we have 4 teams per district making the playoffs.

In D31, Zapata is not expected to make the playoffs. The favorites are Kingsville, Raymondville, and Lyford. Kingsville being the D1 rep.
I don't recall exactly what RGC La Grulla has in terms of enrollment number. I know they're 900+ but I'm not sure if they have more or less than Zapata.

That will be fixed next year with the split divisions.

Stafford (945.5)
West Columbia (817)
D2

Interesting! Well then.... In that case, the ONLY way Rio Hondo would go D1 is if Port Isabel, Rio Hondo, and PROGRESO RED ANTS make the playoffs. Seeing as though that ain't happening in the foreseeable future, Rio Hondo is all but guaranteed D2 status.
The 3 favorites in D32 are Port Isabel, La Feria, and Rio Hondo. La Feria would go D1

And in D31.....Zapata. Lets see the scenarios.
Playoff teams - Kingsville, Zapata, Raymondville: Zapata goes D2. Kingsville is the D1 rep
Playoff teams - Zapata, RGC La Grulla, Lyford: Zapata goes D2. RGC La Grulla will be D1 rep
Playoff teams - Zapata, Raymondville, Lyford: Zapata will be D1 rep. This is the only scenario where Zapata can go D1.
However, Zapata is not projected to make the playoffs this coming season. The 3 favorites are Kingsville, Raymondville, and Lyford. RGC La Grulla is a dark horse.

This is a very informative topic.
Thanks for posting this info.
As LG can attest, it matters what division other teams fall into also.
With el campo, Bellville, Sealy in the picture, wharton won't be D 1

For Gilmer to go D1 2 of these 3 will have to NOT make the playoffs. Chapel Hill, Henderson and Kilgore
For Bullard to go D1 3 of these 4 will have to NOT make the playoffs. Chapel Hill, Henderson, Kilgore and Gilmer. That would mean G'water and Spring Hill were both in.........That's not happening.

If Rockport-Fulton or Robstown make it then Sinton and Ingleside will go division 2. If neither of those 2 make it then Ingleside will go division 1 and Sinton will go division 2.

Navasota can only go Division I. Taylor and College Station are both larger but CS doesn't participate in varsity football. Navasota and Taylor would be the largest two schools from d18.

Good catch. I missed that. Will CS play varsity in 2014?

Yes, but they may be moving up a classification.

They will move up to 4A and possibly 5A. They have over 900 students with just Freshmen and Sophmores.
