Like no one didn't already know he was gay. I mean she. What's to keep quite about?

Jeesh, you would think that no one has ever been around womens collegiate athletics. This is all "new" to them. It is a "non-story".

Athlete sexuality questions and "coming out" statements have been so overblown and over covered by the media that I think everyone is very tired of hearing them. Let's face it folks---I don't care if a good player is a bi-sexual green martian, they are going to play and not be benched because of their sexual preferences--period.

Well, the fact that she is gay may not be a story, but the details surrounding it I think are a real story.

Especially, given that she went to a private religious institution that has pretty strict student conduct statements regarding this. And was the coach doing the right thing by keeping it 'on the downlow' so to speak? Was she protecting the athlete? Was she protecting the image of her program? How should the powers that be at the university feel about that?

I think it's a facinating story because of all the above elements and I"m sure there's some more interesting angles I haven't listed.

And the fact that this is a Baptist school and Griner is a full scholarship athlete doesn't make any difference?

Way I read it, Baylor will take you even if your gay, if your a stud player. And, all of Baylor administrators surely knew Brittney was weak wristed. Just surprised Baylor allowed it.

Farmer---I wasn't making any opinion on the rightness or wrongness of the Baylor decision to allow Griner to play, I was stating the facts of life regarding playing outstanding athletes by any institution or pro team.
If you want to argue morality and religion, have at it.

I was simply asking if you thought those facts makes a difference in this case. #1. The Baptist religion denounces homosexuality as vehemently as any other and #2. If contributions (to a religious school) and public money is being used to keep this person in school should she be held to a more "Baptist" type of lifestyle?
Yes, there probably was a hidden agenda in my comment but sometimes I just can't help myself............

If Griner coming out now that she is not at Baylor comes as a shock to Baylor's administration, they just had blinders on or are idiots. It was no surprise to the bluehaired devout Baylor womens basketball season ticket holders at my church. Nor did they care.

I do say that baylor has double standards, though. They would not hire a coworker's wife because she is Budist. Just depends on if the person can bring you a National Championship or not.

Not that there is anything wrong with it.........

Wasn't this Sheryl Swoops reason for transferring from Texas years ago.

Other than that....I've never paid it much mind.

Swoopes was just the first to admit to being lesbian...but not while she was enrolled in school. My wife lived on the same floor as the female athletes at A&M back in the mid '80s. There was nothing kept on the "down low" about preferences back then.

I do think this is where the story lies. How will schools like Baylor deal with this? At non-religious schools, it's not an issue, but how does a school like BAylor or BYU deal with these issues going forward? It's going to be come more and more commonplace for these kids to 'come out'. Are the schools going to take a stand like they would with the average biology major?

I hope not. We are becoming a nation of less and less Christians. That is scary. We need more of GOD not less, based on things happening in this crazy world. More you omit GOD, things get worse.

I'm fully aware, and it concerns me. Like I said, the percentage of Christians is dropping. More we push GOD and his teachings away, more we risk seeing our schools falter, along with everything else. His coming is nearing, and what a glorious day that will be for the believers of Jesus Christ.

Stand your ground.

I hate posting religion but just this once

The Bible quotes Jesus as saying, " judge not les ye be judged"

Society is definitely changing.

Stand firm in what YOU believe, but I have come to the conclusion that judgement comes from above

Yea, you guys and your gyrating animated gifs. My elderly mother-in-law, who is living with us because her house blew up in West, thinks I'm into porn as I try to fly past them while reading the ole downlow in the living room. "Billy (that's what I went by when i was 18)..... is that a red Dixie cup I see.....".

ETB, you sure you're not wearin' any handkerchiefs in your back pockets?.....that could be your problem!......I quit using my snot blower a long time ago...
Wearing color-coded handkerchiefs (bandanas), usually in the back pocket or around the belt loop, is the manner in which communication of desires and fetishes is achieved.
