I heard the same thing. Someone called me and told me kids from both teams were competing their tail off! When I talked to the coaches I was told Texas City won the last event by 1/10 of a second on the final event of the day or La Marque would have won the whole thing. It's not football but it sure is fun to have kids out there competing and having a good time.

It's great to see the kids in these types of competitions. Much better than sitting on the couch watching TV or playing video games.

LA MARQUE — For one day, the spotlight was on brawn and brute strength.
“This is like elementary school Field Day, except for the big boys,” La Marque head football coach Mike Jackson said during Saturday’s Lineman Challenge.
The morning of activities highlighted the abilities of the unsung grunts of the football field — the linemen and linebackers.
Participants were called upon to display their muscle by pushing trucks, flipping tractor tires and using a 45-pound weight as a baton during a relay race.
The big action centered around the reverse tug, where members of two teams were harnessed together, then laid down on their stomachs with heads opposite.
At a signal, they each tried to gain leverage and pull the other to his side. The winner was the one who could tap a tire first.
“The trick is to stay low,” offensive lineman Dylan Taylor said.
That wasn’t easy for the Friendswood freshman, as he stands 6-foot-6, but he made do, winning his tussle.
When La Marque and Texas City went head-to-head in the reverse tug, there was a lot of friendly trash-talking between the archrivals.
“We all grew up together,” Texas City nose guard Francois Bonilla said. “There might be some issues, but we’re working them out.”
Bonilla drew La Marque defensive end Kenneth Edwards in the reverse tug in what was an all-dreadlock match.
The two started evenly, but after a few seconds, something clicked and Bonilla let out a roar, leapt forward and yanked Edwards backward.
“I didn’t hear them say ‘go’ because everybody was so loud, but once I felt him pulling me and I thought about my family and all the work we did as a team, I just had to go,” he said.
Edwards was none the worse for wear and tear after the battle.
“We’re just out here having fun,” he said. “This is great, it gets us out here competing against each other and we get ready for next season.”
Then Edwards noticed that his teammates had moved on to the next event, so he raced off to catch them.
About halfway to his destination, he altered his route so he could leap over a trash can without breaking stride.
Which is exactly what you would expect a kid to do at Field Day.
