Season over.surprise Sharyland gave up that many runs they've been dominating teams. Great season Rattlers one gamer was Eagle Pass best shot and it worked out for them. Larado United path to Austin looks much clearer now.

This was not the only questionable call (after watching the replay several times, I see no balk by the way) there was another play where an Eagle Pass batter foul tipped the ball, and the ball ricochet off his face. Instead of it being called a foul ball and 2nd strike, they called it "Hit by Pitch" and he was given 1st base.

I completely forgot about that play as well! An Eagle Pass player sliding into 2nd base just about annihilated Sharyland's SS when he was trying to complete a double-play. They let the play go, and they ejected the SS from Sharyland. That allowed Eagle Pass's tying run to come in to send it to extra innings.

I'm also curious what chapter those Umpires were from. Eagle Pass was the home team, and the game was played in San Antonio. Pretty good chance they were San Antonio based Umpires, and there is a lot of bad blood between the Valley and San Antonio. Wouldn't surprise me in the least if that had something to do with it.

why do umpires take over games so many times? go watch any HS sport and you will see some umpire trying to prove something. be a part of the game, not the game. if this is the balk play, that guy shouldn't be allowed to ever call another game.

Looks like my hunch was right. They WERE San Antonio based Umpires. Here's the link, and apparently Eagle Pass is under investigation by the UIL.

I'm hearing some crazy stuff. How Eagle Pass hand-picked the umpires. How a couple of them worked last week's EP-Brownsville Hanna game. And how the 3rd Base coach from EP was constantly in the ump's ear about the Shary pitcher balking. Still, Shary should have won and didn't get the job done

We had a similar play happen in our game with Alvarado Friday night. The 2nd base umpire calls his second balk of the game in the 8th inning with a runner on 3rd. It was in the top of the inning and we did get to bat but it took the wind out of our sails. He appeared to be the only one in the stadium that saw a balk. My son was at second base and he said even the Alvarado players were laughing about how bad it was. We may not have won the game, but at least the kids could have determined it. We did beat them 2 straight the next day, so it made it tolerable.
