I took this from a local sports radio debate:

If Texas was mostly a mountainous terrain, and your town had to carve out a Mount Rushmore style monument depicting your towns sports heroes. What four deserving players or coaches faces would you use? Being fairly new to Burnet, I can only think of two individuals that might be deserving of that honor. They would be:

Jordan Shipley
Stephen McGee

after that, I'll need help from some of you lifers or oldtimers.....

What about for pro teams? For Dallas I came up with:

Tom Landry
Bob Lilly
Roger Staubach
Emmitt Smith

I'm sure this one is debatable

To answer the original question

Sweeny - I could see Coaches Ed Waggoner (66 State Champs), Ebbie Neptune, Kenneth Dabbs and Bob Pyssen

Dabbs started the football program @ Austin Westlake after Sweeny and Neptune came to Westlake years later after Dabbs requested him.

Players IDK what four I would put.

James Borglum graduated from Goliad High School in 1971, I believe. It was either his great grandfather, or his great-great grandfather who was in charge of sculpting the Mount Rushmore project. I wonder if he took up his family's trade??? Maybe we have a Borglum right here in Texas somewhere that could conscript a Texas monument like his predecessor did. Little known facts of a Texas connection......brought to you by regaleagle.

Interesting. Yes, for sure, Texas deserves and needs it`s own "Mt Rushmore" style monument. Many people to consider for a place on this monument.

Cam, Bobcat, Farmerfan, Gsqd, .... Could go on forever.

But seriously, many Texans in all fields could find a place.
