What do you think is the best highschool football county, all classes, in Texas? Criterion might be total SC's won, playoff appearances, district titles, etc.

Galveston County Population : 300,000

McLennan County Population: 238,000 12 Championships out 31 SC apperances. Doesn't hurt to have Mart (4 of 9) and Waco High (5 of 10 and 1 MNC) included.

I agree and will add " back in the day " Matagorda County with bay city, tide haven, van fleck,

1980s these schools were so close but each had talent all over the playing fields

I think Texas A & M kings vile used to clean up on this recruiting secret.

Per capita

This year with el campo and east Bernard wharton county was strong.

Only five schools in county

The Original Question said County, but it is not fair should be per capita. Collin has the most titles for sure, but shoot they should with that population in that area booming.

Morris County in East Texas has about 13,000 residents and only 2 high schools, Daingerfield and Paul Pewitt. They are the smallest County in Texas and have 7 State Titles and and 3 other State appearances. Got to be the Hands Down Champion.

Rockwall County is the smallest in Texas. Loving County is the least populated with 82. County seat is Mentone with 19. They don't even have a school in the county. They go to Wink.
Sorry, I cannot remember my next door neighbors name but can remember stupid stuff like this.

However, Morris County is ahead in SC/appearences per capita.

My brother played on the Wylie 1977 State championship team. They were fun to watch! I was fortunate enough to be on a State title team at Daingerfield in 1985. Not many families can say they have 2 state titles in 2 different towns.

Surely some West Texas county with a couple thousand residents has a 6-man school that won state. Why not them?

Using Per Capita as a criteria would not come close to giving the title to Morris County. Just a couple that comes to the top of my mind in West Texas are Knox County (1300 population and 3 titles. That's 1 title for every 433 people) and kent County (850 population with 2 titles= 425 people per title). Morris county has 1 title every 1857 people. I'm thinking we could find a lot of counties that would beat Morris county in a per Capita basis........ How about Motley County? (2 titles and 1200 population.)

Good point. Sorry, I'll leave the 7 state titles won by 2 schools in Morris County out of the statement. I forgot to count all the 6-man schools, because I don't count that the same as 11-man. My personal bias I guess. Carry on, All Hail Collin County!!!!

Well, from what I have read in this thread so far, there seems to be two criteria used for this determination: 1. Total SC's in the county. 2. SC's per capita
Other evaluations are always welcome. Might give a different slant on things.
