From the Victoria Advocate
Three finalists have emerged to become the athletic director and head football coach at Palacios.

Huntsville offensive coordinator Michael Martinez, Sealy assistant Jay Viertel and former Early athletic director and head football coach Brad Bowden met Monday night with a selection committee made up of Palacios school board members, teachers and parents.

Palacios Superintendent Vicki Adams said the district received 93 applications for the position.

She expects to take a recommendation to the school board at Monday night's meeting.

My sources in Shark-land say this is a done deal and Brad Bowden will be named on Monday

One of the state's best paying 3A gig's. But, you'll only have a winning record once a decade or two, at the City By The Sea.

I dont mean this to sound bad but I wonder what they are looking for? From what I've heard from locals in Early he was a good guy but did not have a lot of success in the win/loss area. He came to Early from Grape Creek where his record was worse.

With all due respect, nobody has ever had success in Grape Creek, and Early doesn't have near the athletes they had 5 years ago when Tindol was there. Brad Bowden is a very good football coach and an even better man. The Sharks did well with this hire!!!

Will be hard to replace Mike Treybig who I' ve known since 1986. Had one good year for the Sharks. Was a great AD and promoted all sports. A great guy.

I was surprised when they announced that he was being replaced. I was under the impression that he had a good following with parents and had heard nothing but good things about his reputation. Tindol may have caught it right but they went from zero to a State Finals. I guess someone in power is wanting that instant thing again.

While Grape Creek is a whipping boy somewhere the win / loss record goes into the equation.

Treybig retired, that is the reason he is being replaced... no other reason
