This has been talked about for years in the Houston area.

Next year is the last the city can decide the Astrodome's future. If nothing is determined it will be imploded for more parking for Reliant Stadium. On a personal note, The first pro football and baseball games I attended were at the Dome. So many great memories (Nolan Ryan, Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire, Craig Biggio's first game), Barry Larkin; Earl Campbell, Warren Moon, Deion Sanders, Dan Marino and many more.. I had the opportunity to play a playoff game in the Dome back in high school. It is an icon in the Houston area and I for one don't want to lose it.

Just wanted your thoughts.

It is an icon, and id love for it to stay, but if they can't find a practical use for it... Might as well demo it

Remove the roof, cut out the endzone walls/seats, upgrade the concourse and turf, and you'd have one hell of a high school football stadium. They could even return to the games of the week format they used to do.

The Dome is falling apart inside. Without use, it has deteriated to the point that it wouldn't be cost effective to even try to repair it. I hate to see it go, but it has become a danger and should be torn down.

Anyone that thinks keeping the Astrodome needs to take a trip to New Orleans and just look around. Or you could go watch an episode of "Hording"

Astrodome built in 1962 for $35 million, $29 million to demolish it and put in parking lot. That seems crazy , all you get is a parking lot.

And to remodel it and make it useful it will take $50 mill +...... No brainer to me. Tear it down.

Renovate it and used it for the rodeo again
I hate Reliant Stadium.
The Dome is part of Texas and Americana.

Saw my first MLB game in 1971 Pirates and Astros. In 1994 saw Stephenville come back from 14-3 halftime deficit to defeat La Marque 32-17 in State 4A game. It looked a lot smaller in 1994 than 1971 when I was 13. :)Great memories, but everything have their moments. Time to go.

Don't forget to add the $30 million in construction debt the county still owes on the Dome.

I would hate to see the Dome go, but I do think it's time to bring her down.

Earlier I read Roger Goodell's take on the Astrodome and Houston's Super Bowl LI bid. Roger dangling the carrot...

“That issue is for the community to decide, but I think having an extra 2,500 parking spaces would enhance Houston’s bid,” Goodell said.

I too have lots of good memories of the 'Dome... but it's time has passed and time to move on. Demolish it.

Heard Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, George Jones, Buck Owens in the Dome- Went there when the Oilers packed the place on a Sunday night after a playoff loss in the Luv You Blue Days with Bum. It would be an injustice if they tear it down.

Solid use of $194 million

Seems like you could just build a brand new venue for that.

Man, wish I had 100 dollars for every Oiler and Astro game Ive been to there!! I loved my Oiler seats! I even saw Pink Floyd there! Sounds crazy, but I'd rather see the Texans play in the Astrodome.

I remember me and my dad sitting in Bud Adams box back in the late 80's or early 90's before they left. We won free company tickets (My dad worked for Phillips 66 which Adams owned. The best part was the personal bar he had right outside the door. (Everything was free)

Yeah or do something a lot more productive, or not blow 194$ mil when there's already a huge deficit.

Reliant Stadium is overated-I'll always love the Astrodome and wish they would move the rodeo back there.
Money should be no object to fix it-It's part of Texas history

Demolition likely...

It's a sad time in Houston with voters not passing to keep the Astrodome, but it's far from over. I was going to the Dome since it opened for all events. It a part of Houston history and should remained opened. It these baby boomers that want it closed. It's only money. I refuse to go to Reliant for any event-The persons who voted against it have no clue

Good for them.

Auction whatever you can from inside that is in safe condition to take away some of the cost.

It's people not wanting increased taxes to save a venue that is not in condition to use and only purpose would be is for high school games.

It's the 8th wonder of the world and a very historic places. It means a lot to me since I went there several times growing up as kid when it first opened. They said tearing it down is not a done deal yet just because this proposition failed. This building deserves to stand until enternity

I don't understand how a building "deserves" to stand... ok so you have fond memories of the place but if that place is gone does that make your memories fade? There is a generation coming who has no ties to it, never been to a game... and you are asking them to pay to keep an outdated, dangerous facility staffed and working for what? you don't need more convention space. you have a brand new one next door... you don't need it for football... you have a brand new one next door with some of the biggest video screens in the world...

Its time to tear it down and move on...

Scoop has to be a baby boomer. That attitude he has is the epitome of that generation. Piss away money and then expect others to make up for your financial mistakes.

Yah, go tell that to the other Rockdalers. :)

It is a shame to not be able to find something to do with it. First they tore down Astroworld because of gangstas and now the dome. It put the city on the map, but if the voters don't want it, that's their decision.
