WINNIE The La Marque boys basketball team is winning in the playoffs again.
Demun Mercer had 15 points, 15 rebounds and three blocks, and Lawrence Montegut iced the game with a pair of free throws in the final seconds as the Cougars downed No. 11 West Orange-Stark on Friday night, 52-47, in the area round of the Class 3A postseason.
Its nice to see La Marque back in the playoffs and winning, said first-year head coach David Montano. We came out, played hard and got a good win against a ranked West Orange-Stark team.
The win pushes La Marque into the regional quarterfinals against Houston Washington. Game date, time and site will be determined this weekend.
