Refer to my post on page 3 regarding the Wimberley Coach Leaving. Winning is an equation and Talent is just a portion of this equation,However, at the highschool level football talent isnt restricted to D1 kids. Rather kids with a measure of talent that can line up against and out execute anyone they face. Also I forgot to add Football-IQ as another factor.

A few good examples come to mind when thinking of HS talent vs D1 talent. This years Navasota team and the 06-07 LH Panthers.
This years Navasota team may have not had kids with the stature to flood D1 schools, but they were very talented none the less.

Navasota likely had a group of kids like the 07 LH team. These kids were physical and athletic enough to go out whip the snot out of anyone they lined up against. That group of LH kids lined up against a very D1 talent laden Gilmer team in the championship and handed their a$$ to them play after play. The LH guards were around 5'10/190 lbs-ish. However, both were extremely athletic, fast (4.6 40 times) and filled with relentless resolve.... The strong tackle was only around
5'10/280 ish, but was strong as an ox and so aggressive he would out play any major DI he ever faced (he happens to be playing at a DI school now, impressive for a lineman under 6').

Anyway, there is alot of factors requried to produce the Friday night wins in Texas, especially in November and December. Talent is only 1 ingredient, and that talent shouldn't be mistaken only for kids who get DI looks, there a lot of kids in HS football that out play the DI boys but dont get a look because they dont fit the physical dimensions that Colleges are looking for.

TCU broke some of these stereo types when they recruited 5'9" receiver Jeremy Kerley from Hutto (NY Jets) and a Skinny Linebacker named Tank Carder from Sweeny (Cleveland Browns).

UT learned a painful lesson with "Little Johnny Football"....... :)

Talent is an ingredient, however, Sealy must be missing other factors in the whole team chemistry success equation...

In 2006, we had seven (7) Div. 1 guys...two (2) NFL...we were beat by Liberty Eyleau in the first round...at least they did go on for the SC

It's awesome that they have the opportunity to play football beyond high school.
Playing at the next level takes hard work, dedication, and helps mold them in to leaders.

Yoakum players going to next level

Keith Ratley, WR - A&M Commerce
Willie Hights, OL - Sul Ross

The Keith Ratley story is a good one.
I had heard through the grapevine that schools had shown interest, but he didn't have any hard scholarship offers until after the all-star game.
I also read that he was unsure if he wanted to play college ball until the all-star game.
Sometimes kids think D-1 or nothing.
What hear you around Yoakum?

I hear he did good waiting to prove himself in person and get a better offer.
