View Full Version : Manziel 4th in 2008 Heisman?

Johnny Manziel won the 2012 Heisman trophy with the following stats: 5116 total yds / 47 total TDs / 9 Ints.
Texas A&M finished 11-2 beating #1 Alabama, #12 Oklahoma, #17 Mississippi St., #23 Louisiana Tech and losing to #6 LSU, #24 Florida.
An incredible season and a deserving award winner.

But where would Manziel have finished in 2008?

The Heisman went to Sam Bradford with Colt McCoy (2nd), Tim Tebow (3rd), Graham Harrell (4th) and Michael Crabtree (5th).

A review of Harrell's numbers reveals an eerie similarity to Manziel: 5096 total yds / 51 total TDs / 9 Ints.
Texas Tech finished 11-2 beating #1 Texas, #8 Oklahoma St., #19 Kansas and losing to #5 Oklahoma, #20 Mississippi.
Another incredible season and awarded the label "system QB".

No real beef from me, just thought it was an interesting comparison to share with the Forum.
It is, after all, the offseason.

This is the most retarded thread I have ever seen. Yes, I am an Aggie and I love Manziel, but this is seriously reaching. Please, go find something more constructive to do with your time... Hater!!!

Good job trying to sugar coat it at the end!!!

"No way he competes with Colt in 08?"

LMAO.

Might want to check those stats.....its not even close. Simple google search of Colt McCoy 2008 stats would have saved you an embarrassing post. McCoy's stats were good but compared to Manziel's, they pale in comparison.

I completely disagree. Manziel is better than both those great college QBs. He is much more explosive and has more tools.

Harrell didn't lead the SEC in rushing.

For one thing, JFF would have been 15 or 16 years old in 2008. So, you are correct, he probably only would have ended up 2nd or 3rd that year.

Get real and get a life.

Point taken...sometimes year to year comparisons are "apples to oranges"...thanks for the input.

Then again, comparing two players in the same year with no common opponents seems to make little sense.

Manziel

3,706 passing 26 tds
1,410 rushing 21 tds
68% completion percentage

That's 696 more total yards and 2 more tds than McCoy's 2008 season.

You sure he "can't compete with Colt"?

As far as Heisman is concerned, no.

Colt played on a team that was in the hunt for a national title and had they made the title game probably would of won over bradford. 2008 was a season that should of ended with a OU/Texas MNC game but because that was taboo then and they weren't the SEC it never happened.

Seems to be a lot of would of's, could of's, and should of's in your statement.

And no, the big 12 will never be the SEC

No, Colt had a freak injury that knocked him out of the game. Johnny could easily tear his ACL in the first play of next years game and that wouldn't be a credit to Alabama's defense.

No.... Colt was CRUSHED by an Alabama defensive lineman, and had to be taken out of the game. Are you seriously comparing Colt McCoy to Manziel?

No not really. The clip above proves that.... Yes, one has a Heisman the other led his team to the NC game. I think we still have a few years before an accurate comparison can be made.

Why are you aggie people getting so defensive? I do not believe that Colt or Graham are/were anywhere close to being the pure athlete that Johnny is and will continue to be, all that the original poster was saying was that Graham's numbers and Manziels numbers are really close and tha tGraham finished 4th in the voting that year.
