CLOSER TO HOME: WYLIE PUTS TWO PLAYERS, COACH ON TSWA ALL-STATE VOLLEYBALL TEAMS

Two Wylie volleyball players and coach Maggie Hunt earned spots on the Texas Sports Writers Association All-State teams released Monday to headline a list of seven Big Country players or coaches honored by the TSWA.
Hunt, who in her first year as head coach led the Lady Bulldogs to their first state championship, was named the Coach of the Year for 3A, while senior setter Tucker Smith was named the 3A Player of the Year. Smith also was the setter on the first-team, where she was joined by teammate Kylie Jenkins, a senior middle blocker.
Stephenville hitter Kristen Kaiser, was the only other area representative on the 3A list, earning honorable mention.
The Big Country's three remaining picks came in 2A, where Dublin middle blocker Margie Damstra was a third-team selection and Colorado City's Mackenzie Kimball and Heather Merket garnered honorable mention.
