Would be much more exciting if there was something there when you arrived. Like a drive to Amarillo.

I should have been clear...nothing against EP...it takes days to get there & it is the same stretch of road over & over & over & over...

Seeing Juarez at night was pretty cool.

The town itself isn't bad but that drive....

seeing Juarez is a lot better than being there hahaha

That big mexican flag they have is kind of odd....that thing is HUGE you can see it from pretty much anywhere on I-10 in El Paso

Saggy,

If you can go eat at Carlos and Mickey's.....great mexican food....for true and cheap El Paso check out Chico's Tacos.....not the tacos you are thinking off..but trust me they are pretty good and cheap!

Matt, just went and ate at a local Mexican joint with my brother. A place that he suggested (cuz he's stationed here at ft bliss). Was pretty good and definitely cheap. 6 of us ate lunch for like 23$.

I'll check out those places you said if we get a chance

There's no shortage of great mexican food in town....its different than the Tex-Mex you get in most parts of Texas.....more traditional old Mexico style.....Franklin Mountains State Park I believe is one of the few state parks located in an urban area..some great views there...

I actually looked for that flag you were talking about and haven't seen it yet?

I've seen all kinds of stuff, even the words on the side of the mountains but no flags yet.

You can usually see it from I-10...but apparently its only shown during holidays and special occasions...but last time I was out there was during the Fiesta Bowl and it was flying..I bet it flies tomorrow

I was actually in El Paso for the first time in my life this weekend. I had heard so many stories that I was scared to go. We had a great time, found an awesome outlet mall and spent tons of money. I didn't eat any Mexican food though. I never realized how mountainous it was. The drive sucks though and I just came from Midland...took us about 4.5 hours to drive it.

We did get to watch someone being removed from their car (at the checkpoint coming back home) and all their belongings get tossed out and gone through...that was kind of exciting!!

I was told the stench comes from the leather tanning industry and depends on which way the wind blows. It would've gagged a maggot the day we went through.

El Paso is actually one of the safest large cities in the nation, there's very little violent crime in the city....never once did I feel unsafe there...

they are building a really nice outdoor mall in El Paso, I remember reading about it in the Southwest magazine while flying...RM if the drive sucked from Midland think about it from DFW or Houston lol

I forgot about the border checkpoint...never saw anyone pulled from the car..they have them in South Texas near the RGV also

I read once that El Paso is so remote from the major inhabited part of Texas and not even in the same time zone, perhaps we (Texans) should donate the city to El Paso so they would have two cities.

Matthew328

There's no question El Paso is quite remote..its almost like not being in Texas

Imo anything west of say like junction almost seems like its not Texas
