NFL player fines are a runaway train. The NFL has fined Demarco Murray $7500 for grabbing a facemask during a run in the Steeler game---and no penalty was even called. Video shows that Murray did clearly grab the facemask, but did not attempt to twist it or tackle the player. Somebody has suggested that maybe the only way to set the pro game back to how it should be played is to allow only single-bar face masks and that would be self-regulating in the injury department---nobody would want to hit, or be hit, in the head.

I agree that the fines are out of hand, as are the penalties for hitting a defenseless receiver.

And this wasn't his first run in with the NFL for this. This was all his fault.

They need to fine anyone who has grabbed a facemask and fine them. That is ridiculous

what about when a coach grabs a player's mask to punish them?

I guess that only happens in high school and maybe college ball.
