Congrats to Mr. Baker but that may be highway robbery with Tyler Jones getting honorable mention all-state. I am sure the ring will help ease the pain.

Quarterback:

— KADARIUS BAKER, Navasota, Sr. — 161 completions, 2,946 passing yds, 37 TDs; 2 rushing TDs; 4 Int

Tyler Jones, Stephenville, Sr. -- 263 Completions, 3,992 passing yds, 43 pass TD's; 1,010 rush yards, 24 rushing TD's - all in just 14 games

Were only the stats for the regular season used? Or were the playoff stats used as well?

I think those are just Baker's regular season stats. Which Jones played one less game in the regular season and one less in the playoffs. For Gunter and Jones to only get honorable mention is more perplexing. Like I said before, congrats to Kadarius Baker. He is very deserving of the honor bestowed upon him but Tyler Jones was not the 3rd best QB in 3A.

I have a question tho... How does the best offense in the state not have any skill players on the 1st and 2nd all state teams?

Anyone have Jones regular season stats to compare them?

The AP is regular season only and Baker out performed Jones stat wise in the regular season. Baker is very deserving of this honor. The TSWA all-state team will come out after the season and it takes the whole season including playoffs into account.

DT Golden from Carthage being second team and DT Moore from Van being Honorable Mention is crazy. IMO both should be first team.

This is what I think of this committee 

Once again the coastal been gets over looked, I'll put Ingleside's QB up against any in the state, I'm not saying he's the best in the state but he's atleast honorable mention, Tristian Barajas was 35 yards shy of another 3000 yard season and 35 td's. Over the last 2 years he's had over 6000 yards and 78 td's...on a team that featured a 1000 yard back. He might not be the best QB in the state but I will say hes the best in region 4 and that atleast deserves an honorable mention I think. Any team teams that's faced our offense should agree.:foul::flaming:

AP is based on regular season stats. Congrts to all the AP team. Was surprised myself that Jones was not 1st or 2nd team.

Congrats. I think Coleman from Lorena got snubbed as well (but lots of great athletes). numbers were huge for him and accounted for more that 250 points. Just a junior so he has another year.

Jones should have been 1st team. I saw both play this year and both are outstanding athletes.

Just goes to show you Stephenville didnt have the most dominate Athletes but still had the most dominate team. I think Navasota can argue they may have the most dominate players and we shall see if they have the most dominate team. I think they will after seeing this. Gilmer may be in trouble!!!

Jones deserved better. Gunter deserved better also. Mookie C. had a good year but not great didnt have the picks like last year. Kinda surprised about J. Noah but like someone mentioned earlier there are lots of great players in this HUGE STATE.

Was this pannel made up from people that live in or near Navasota or they just that dang good?

We should have the coach of the year!!!!

For the record, I saw Baker this year and his receivers make him look real good. He has the numbers and team though. I would classify him as one if the best athletes, but Tyler Jones is a real QB.

Yep, it looks like Gilmer is in trouble. I seem to remember a Gilmer team that had like 8 D1 players on their team, played in the championship game against a smaller, slower team that had maybe one player being looked at as a possible D1. Hmmmmm, I can't remember what happened in that game..... Can somebody please remind?

Just kidding, please don't remind me. I remember vividly. It just goes to show that the best TEAM wins, not the team with the best players.

I may be wrong, but I believe it's the sports writers from across the entire state.

It is made up of sports writers from across the state. Also, if I remember correctly the players have to be nominated by their coaches. When I worked in the newspaper business I remember several great players who were not on the team because their coaches didn't take the time to nominate them.

I think that this year was a really crazy year for QB's in 3A. There are at least five that would be first team all state in most years. I am partial to Baker, but Tyler Jones proved every week that he was just as deserving. Honorable Mention is an insult to him in my opinion. Just remember, to make this team at all you have to be nominated by your coach, then you have to have enough press coverage to get your name out there every week. That, coupled with where the voters are makes a huge difference. If you guys remember, early in the year I posted some Navasota stats and was blasted for it. The newspaper writers troll these boards too. If I can help get kids stats in their minds, I will.

Came across this the other day. K. Baker has 53 touchdown passes on the season, including playoffs, and is currently tied for 11th in the state for touchdown passes in a season.
