I don't know that I have ever seen a game this big discussed on this board with so little smack talk or bravado. I think the class of these two programs and mutual respect has contributed to this. The Gilmer fans are classy people who have confidence in the team they support. After the last meeting between these teams, I watched a large group of fans from Gilmer that came to the end of the stand at Lufkin and gave the Navasota team a loud ovation as they left the field. Our town and our kids remember that. That is what high school football should be about.excellent post

Someone from Navasota came up to me and my family while we were eating hot dogs in the parking lot and asked us if we had anyone that could slow down their high powered offense.

I replied with, "Nope. We're just here to see the stadium. We have no chance of holding y'all. Congrats on being State Champs this year."

That old man is going to be real sad when Gilmer gets at that ass!

GO BUCKEYES!!!

Gilmer QB is going to have to become a run threat. He had a couple of open lanes on that last posession where he could have got some yards. However only rushing three for sota may make that problematic. Better get that running game going.

Well your bet, would be waisted, like your zig, where you shoulda zagged in other words, with the likes of Atlanta, Gladewater, Daingerfield, Liberty Eylau, Tatum, Chapel Hill, Henderson, Kilgore, Jacksonville, Carthage, Gilmer faces very fast teams nearly every Friday night and the Buckeyes, currnetly own the district 100 meters crown, in the coveted 16 3a District of Doom last year, he is soph., runningback for the Buckeyes #21 Chris Boyd! He is one of 4 rb's that have good track speed, all run down hill very well and are hard to bring down! Speed is abundant in the Pineywoods of East Texas!

I'm right here GTown. What are your takes on Navasota's speed?

Gilmer does not look very patient. They need to mix run and pass. Gilmer is going to have to drive the ball. Going to be very hard to get a big play on this defense. A power run offense like El Campo would do better against Sota. La Marque ran the ball well against Sota.

Goods teams like Sota and Ville can make you look bad. Gilmer needs to adjust with some more play action with the QB option to run. Defensively they need to stop blizting and just play regular defense. I expect Gilmer will play better the second half.

I agree with what they need to do in the second half. However, if the Navasota defense plays like they have so far, it will be tough to come back. Navasota defense has shown a great killer instinct all year.

Gilmer better get in the weight room.
I picked the 2 CHAMPIONS FOR WHAT'S THAT WORTH.

Stephenville Champs
Navasota Champs

I'm glad we didn't play each other this year to be honest. Don't know who would win but it wouldn't have been easy for either if these 2 CHAMPIONS. What's up 3A Least Texas

Might not have been so evident today after Navasota took it to Gilmer, but after watching Gilmer dismantle Graham, Sville would have its hands full with Gilmer. If anybody has seen them all play, you might want to steer clear of a Sville vs Navasota discussion.

Navasota is the Div II champs! Stephenville is the Div I champs.

Bob Shipley said it himself, it would have been a great game.

Tyler Jones an company would have a field day with the Rattler defense. Navasota would have had a field day with the Jacket defense.

Probably would have been a shoot out.

The difference would have been the battle in the trenches. Navasota and Stepehnville not only had the best 2 teams in 3A, but both O-lines and D-lines were the best IMO. It's what allows both teams' play makers to do what they do, make plays.

The playoffs are what they are. I, for one, am so proud of the Rattlers, but I refuse to get into what if's. I will repeat, there are two state champs, and in my mind they are the best two teams in 3A without a doubt. Would i love to see them play each other, yes, but because I believe it would be an unforgettable game, not because I think one needs to prove something to the other.

Very impressed with the Rattlers. Best team in 3A this year! Just hated to hear about the young man injured and pray for a speedy and full recovery. The way the team pulled together in the midst of adversity was equally impressive. Hats off to Navasota and congrats on the SC title.

Congrats to Navasota on winning your first state championship! It sucks it had to happen against us, but it is what it is.

You guys just completely dominated us in every aspect of the game, except maybe punting and kick returns. You were, by far the better team.

Again, congrats on the dominating performance.

To the Gilmer players, to say we are extremely proud of you would be an understatement. You guys accomplished so much when everyone expected so little. I know it stings to not finish the season with a win. Only 1 team can finish that way and unfortunately it wasn't our year. You guys have absolutely no reason to hang your heads. Congrats on a fantastic season and thank you for this wonderful journey!

#2 is a senior. Also, imagine the number one RB was also the starting cornerback on defense too. He was the best one on one cover guy in our district.

We are losing the QB,RB,both starting WR's. However, there are some pretty darn good ones coming back. #5 that played running back tonight is a sophmore.

Congratulations Navasota. A very dominating performance. Game ball to #68, the best defensive player I have seen all year. That guy was in the Gilmer backfield all night long and when not there he was making tackles left and right. Never gave the Buckeyes a chance to get any momentum and took it to us from the opening kickoff to the final second. Navasota, you all have a class program and a great fan base.

To the Buckeye players, you far, far exceeded our expectations from the beginning of the year and even at the end of the regular season going into the playoffs. Your never say die play and great work ethic has made everyone in Gilmer proud and we really had a fun ride together this year.

Looking forward already to next year and seeing more great 3A football matchups.

Ohhhhh!!! Bob Shipley even said it would be a great game. Didn't know that, silly me, then I retract my statement. Didn't know Bob had already voiced his non-biased opinion. Really Hollywood, get real. Did you expect anything different during a televised game. Bob does a great job but wth does his opinion matter, I am guessing he probably picked Bwood 2010 to win it all also. If you watched the game you are kidding yourself to think anyone would run all over that Navasota team on that stage. Wish there was a "+1" then mid 3rd qtr we could see what Navasota has coming up next year.

A big congratulations to Navasota for dominating and truly being the best team in the state. I had really hoped Gilmer could at least hang in there but the Rattlers did a really good job of taking the life out of us.

I want to bring up something I have noticed in EVERY championship game so far; the officiating in my opinion has been horrible. They are letting way too many kids get hit late and helmet to helmet without calling anything. I have seen several out of bounds tackles go unnoticed by the officials, and someone is going to get injured if this practice continues. Did anyone see the Lancaster touchdown get denied toward the end when the receiver's foot was clearly in the endzone? That would have at least given them a chance to tie it up given an onside attempt. I know this one didn't change the outcome, but Navasota was given a touchdown where the ball clearly hit the ground and bounced up for the receiver to cradle it, and there were many no-calls in that game for both sides that I felt should have been called. I understand they want to let the kids play, but letting so many personal fouls go unflagged is going to get someone hurt.

It's obvious Navasota had all the ingredients this season to beat all comers. Even without their main rb, they had plenty of depth when needed. Whether or not Stephenville or Navasota was the best team in 3A this year is only conjecture since they didn't meet. A DI meeting would have been great.....thanx Taylor, LOL. Congrats goes out to both teams on a stellar season. Stephenville's hiccup early in my mind means Navasota is #1. They did not lose and had a perfect season. They won every game convincingly against some very formidable competition. I think the Stephenville posters will have to agree that Navasota has earned that distinction....tops in 3A this year.

But, I have a hard time believing any of them would have the game to stay with Navasota. A great team! A great year! A great Champion! Congratulations from from this Buckeye fan!

Sorry it took so long, but better late than never. Congratulations to the Navasota Rattlers, the Class 3A Division II State Champions! Has a nice "ring" to it, doesn't it? I have NO DOUBT who the best 3A team in the state is. It was one of those days where the Rattlers were NOT going to lose, and it didn't matter who they were playing. That's a special group of young men who rallied around a teammate, and got it done. Y'all dominated us in every aspect of the game (except maybe the kicking game, lol:D). That first state championship is always SWEET!

As for my young Buckeyes: thank you for the ride. I never "expected" what y'all did this year. Y'all perservered, overcame adversity, worked extremely hard at getting better, and proved you could play with anybody in the state. Yes, Navasota was better on this day, and y'all lost to a better team, but having played them will make your will even stronger. I am extremely proud of y'all, and want to thank y'all for the ride. There is absolutely NOTHING to hang your head about. Now that you know you can get there by playing one game at a time, now you will know what it will take to finish. GO GET 'EM NEXT YEAR!

I fully expect the Buckeyes to be back in the championship game in 2013.

Waterboy, thanks for the great words. That game was special for the Rattlers and they were not to be denied. However, the Buckeyes have some real talent on the team and are so young. They will be a force next year. No matter what happened last week, you have a group of young men that proved each week that they had the drive and determination to compliment the talent. They went farther than anyone could have hoped coming into the season. I, like you, expect the Buckeyes to challenge strongly for the title again next year. Great kids, great coaching staff, and some of the classiest fans in 3A football.
