I'm pretty laid back, but every once in while a post will really get under my skin, then I have to step in! For the most part though....this site seems to run fairly smoothly!!

Not since 1999, when Gillespie was in his fourth of 13 years as an assistant at Stephenville. If he's learned anything in his 17 total years coaching at the school, it's that nothing comes easily.

Game day tomorrow. I am going to have a hard time being productive at work today and knew I would prolly get nothing done tomorrow. That is why I am taking off at lunch. Thank goodness I have a job where I can take comp time.

Anywho- I can feel the nervous anticipation from both fan bases for this game. The reason being is both teams and their fan base have been there done that before. They both know what kind of team it takes ti win a championship, and they both know that they have that caliber of team this year. These type of teams and chances dont come around very often and inside each of us there is a feeling that if our team gets beat it will be a missed opportunity, and you never know when it may come again.

the QB #2 is the difference in this one..he will be money, because he always is...you can count on it! not only because he is a great QB(IMO, D1 quality), but he is also a total team player..with total confidence in his teamates..the Jacket offense is just a well oiled machine...they are Secretariat.

That's actually not a bad camera. I shoot Nikon as well. For night games, what ISO settings do you normally use? Use flash at all? Do you shoot nudes? panfan was lookin' for someone to shoot him!.....:doh:

you were a little worried..the Indians were in the middle of an 18 play drive, that took 9 mins. with a TD score...but it was all for naught, as wylie will find out, you just cant stop the jacket O consistantly enough..i dont care how good you think your defense is... we were in #2s face all night, and he consistantly found the hot read..the kid is unreal!!

Abilene just a tried up oil town, before long it will look like Desdamona, Thurbur, or worse Odessa.How often do you see Lambo's, Ferrari's, etc..cruising through Stephenville? Granted those cars aren't exactly common here..but BMW's Audi's and Porsche's are a dime a dozen around here. Not saying that everyone in the school district is loaded (simply not true, including myself) but there is a lot of money on the southwest side of town...from upper middle class to obscenely wealthy.

How often do you see Lambo's, Ferrari's, etc..cruising through Stephenville? Granted those cars aren't exactly common here..but BMW's Audi's and Porsche's are a dime a dozen around here. Not saying that everyone in the school district is loaded (simply not true, including myself) but there is a lot of money on the southwest side of town...from upper middle class to obscenely wealthy.

Good for y'all. Maybe that will ease the pain so getting your ass handed to you. Glad to know this.

I lived in abilene for 7 years. My wife also has one sister and three brothers that live in abilene and all have kids in wylie system. My best friend from college is an eye surgeon and lives in wylie. With all that said......your statement about those cars being a "dime a dozen" is the biggest load of crap on this entire thread.

The early concerns of an Aledo hangover were quickly erased after a dominate first half by the Jackets. The defense which gave up 47 points last week was a major contributor against the Bulldogs. Wylie's only score in the first half came off a Stephenville offensive miscue. The Bulldogs were held to negative yards rushing and only 54 total yards in the first half.

Wylie won the toss and elected to receive. They quickly went 3 and out and punted the ball to the Jackets. Stephenville marched down the field behind the passing of Tyler Jones and the running of Aiavion Edwards who capped the opening drive with a 3 yard run.

The Jackets would force another Wylie punt, but on the ensuing possession Jones and Edwards fumbled the exchange. Wylie's Johnathan Bott was right there for the scoop and run from 29 yards out. That tied the score at 7 all. From that point on it was all Stephenville.

Alex Sanchez would cap the scoring in the first quarter with his first TD reception of the year from Jones. The score was 14-7 Stephenville at the end of the 1st qtr.

The 2nd qtr. featured several sacks by the Jacket defense and an 8 yard run by Edwards and a 32 yard TD pass from Jones to Gunter. Stephenville had a chance to add to its first half lead but a bad snap for a loss of 17 yards ended that threat.

The 2nd half featured several miscues by both teams and long injury timeouts. One from Stephenville's Jonah Noah and another from a Wylie player. Noah was able to get up on his own and walk off the field with assistance after laying on the turf for several minutes. The Wylie player had to be immobilized and taken to the hospital by ambulance from an apparent neck injury. The severity and condition of the Wylie player is unknown at this time. We all pray for his health and recovery.

The Jackets received the 2nd half kickoff and marched right down the field. Edwards finished the last 8 yards off with a TD reception from Jones making it 35-7.

After Edwards' 3rd TD is when the injuries happened and things got sloppy after the long delay.

Wylie would score it's only offensive points of the night with 8:05 left in the 4th qtr. Matt McLeod plunged in from a yard out to make the score 35-14 Stephenville. The Jackets would finish up the scoring when backup running back Cameron Burris scored his first varsity touchdown from 6 yards out, and that would be your final score 42-14.

When Stephenville made the drop from Class 4A to 3A this year, it seemed inevitable the Yellow Jackets would run into the Wylie Bulldogs at some point in the football playoffs.

Sure enough, the No. 3 Yellow Jackets (10-1) play the No. 2 Bulldogs (12-0) at 7:30 tonight in the Region I-3A Division I finals at Memorial Stadium in Wichita Falls.

And fans are anticipating a great game.

The winner advances to the state semifinals next week.

"We've sort of known we were going to be here at some point in time when they realigned everything," said Sam Reyes, president of the Wylie All-Sports Booster Club. "I think we're ready. They're ready. Our boys are ready. The coaches have them prepared. My son (Spencer) plays on the team, and I know they're excited and ready to play.

"It's just what football should be — two good teams going at it. Both sides are going to be full. We've got our shakers made. We're ready to make a bunch of noise for the team. I'm excited. It's an exciting time for Wylie and Stephenville."

Randy Culpepper, who has lived in Stephenville for 17 years, said he expected big things when the Yellow Jackets dropped down to 3A. However, he didn't think it to be easy, despite the fact Texas Football magazine pegged Stephenville as the preseason favorite. Wylie was No. 18 and picked second behind Monahans in its district.

"I never really thought they would dominant," Culpepper said of his team. "There's good 3A programs, real good 3A programs. I knew we would run into schools that weren't the caliber we play, which we have. But we've all seen Wylie play, and we know what they can do. It's going to be a good game.

"That's all there is to it."

Stephenville's only stumble thus far came in the season opener, when a team out of Mexico — Monterrey Tech — stunned the Yellow Jackets 27-17 in Stephenville. Since then, Stephenville has been crushing its opponents, including wins over 4A teams Aledo, Beaumont Ozen and Amarillo High.

Wylie has been impressive too, and the Bulldogs' district still has all three teams left in the playoffs. Monahans and Midland Greenwood are in Division II. Wylie also beat playoff teams Argyle and Graham in nondistrict play.

"I think that speaks a lot for the district we're in," Reyes said. "Argyle is still playing, and we beat them. Graham is still playing, and we beat them. So I think these boys are prepared."

Added Culpepper: "We know what they can do, and they know what we can do. It's going to be a great game. Of course, being from Stephenville, I want to see Stephenville win. But you don't ever know. I'm not taking anything away from Wylie. They're good."

It's not the first time Stephenville and Wylie have met on the football field. The two teams played each other in nondistrict the previous two seasons, with the Yellow Jackets winning both (42-14 last year at Wylie and 33-21 in Stephenville in 2010).

The two schools also play each other quite often in other sports, and they even shared the same 4A soccer district before this realignment period. There's only two classes for soccer (5A and 4A).

The two schools met on the basketball court Tuesday night in Stephenville. The Honeybees knocked off the two-time defending 3A champs in the girls game, while Wylie won the boys game.

But the marquee matchup — one that's created buzz statewide — is on the football field.

"It's a great game to have a son play in," said Gary Linn, whose son Jake is a senior linebacker for the Bulldogs. "It's why you play high school football and why parents follow it, so you can see kids play in these kind of games.

"It's been a very fun run so far this season, and we hope it just keeps on going. We certainly understand this is probably the best team we've played this year. We look forward to it. We're ready to go."

Both teams have some history to lean on — Stephenville in Class 4A and Wylie in Class 3A.

Stephenville has won four state titles (1993, 1994, 1998, 1999), all in Class 4A, while Wylie has played for the Class 3A title three times — winning one in 2004.

Game day tomorrow. I am going to have a hard time being productive at work today and knew I would prolly get nothing done tomorrow. That is why I am taking off at lunch. Thank goodness I have a job where I can take comp time.

Anywho- I can feel the nervous anticipation from both fan bases for this game. The reason being is both teams and their fan base have been there done that before. They both know what kind of team it takes ti win a championship, and they both know that they have that caliber of team this year. These type of teams and chances dont come around very often and inside each of us there is a feeling that if our team gets beat it will be a missed opportunity, and you never know when it may come again.

Yes sir that's what stings, somebody is not going any farther tomorrow!!! That's why I hope all teams play their best game tomorrow so if they don't win it won't be a matter of " we could have played better, and have"!!! Good luck to Wylie and Stephenvile!! May the best team win!!

If folks statewide have the Wylie-Stephenville state quarterfinal matchup circled on their brackets, you can hardly blame them. That game, with all its potential as a clash of area powers, has seemed like an inevitability since it became clear that Wylie would go to the big school division in the Class 3A playoffs — if not back in February, when the new alignments were announced by the UIL.

Possessing all the qualities you look for in a marquee matchup, the Wylie-Stephenville game has had some high school football fans buzzing for months. Now that it's finally here, and both teams have done what's necessary to force it, the coaches and players involved can finally admit they're little excited about it too.

"(These types of matchups are) a lot of fun," Wylie coach Hugh Sandifer said. "If you want to be the best, you know you're going to have to go play the best. ... It's always exciting to play marquee matchups.

"When so many teams and high school football players are sitting in the bleachers right now watching, it's exciting to know that you're part of one of the biggest games in the state of Texas."

The hype surrounding the Wylie-Stephenville matchup, originally based more on potential and hypotheticals than fact, has only been magnified as a result of the two teams' performance this season. Ranked as the No. 2 and 3 teams in 3A, respectively, Wylie has yet to lose a game, with only one of its 12 wins coming by less than 18 points, and Stephenville has won 10 straight since losing by four points to Monterey (Mex.) Tech in its opener.

Add to this that both schools have state championship pedigrees — Stepheenville has won four in four chances; Wylie has won one and played for two others — and it's easy to see why fans are fired up about this game, Sandifer said.

"It's just one of those deals," he said. "Both of us have visions and goals that are bigger than this game, and it's just one of those games that happens on the way to that goal. Those games just happen, and somebody's going to be fortunate enough to continue after this week.

"I think Stephenville has established (a championship culture) through the years, and we've worked very hard to establish that. I don't think either one of the teams, Stephenville or Wylie, is afraid to talk about state championships as a goal. I think that's the type of programs that we have. I'm not trying to come across as arrogant or anything else, I just think that's legitimate ... and it should add for a lot of excitement."

Wylie quarterback Taylor Grant, who has led one of the most efficient offenses in the state this season, said it's important for the Bulldogs to control that excitement. He said he's as fired up as anyone for the opportunity his team has, but he said the players can't get too caught up in the "what ifs" that have captured many fans' imaginations.

"(You've got) two teams with long win streaks coming to face each other, so it should be a good one," Grant said. "But we're just looking forward getting out there and playing.

"It's definitely exciting. Being in the third round of the playoffs and getting closer to the state championship every week just kinds of heightens the expectations of the game. But we've just got to treat it like a regular game."

On the field, both teams will face challenges they likely haven't to this point.

Stephenville's offense, which has piled up yards and points with impunity, will no doubt push a Wylie defense that has aced every test to date. And Wylie's ability to control clock and finish drives could put pressure on the Yellow Jackets they haven't felt in weeks.

Those types of matchups are part of what make this game so intriguing, said Wylie cornerback Shante Brown, who will be involved in one of the biggest individual battles when he lines up across from 1,000-yard receiver Brice Gunter tonight.

"We both have championship teams, and playing in this game just gets you pumped," Brown said. "It's two good teams playing in the playoffs, and that's going to bring a lot of attention and hype to it.

"That just makes you want to play harder and show everybody what you're made of and how good you are."

The only downside of a matchup like this, Sandifer said, is that one team's going to lose and see an outstanding season end. But someone's also got to win, and that team will be well prepared for the title chase ahead.

"There's been pressure on both of us all season," Sandifer said. "When Stephenville lost their first game, I think people were shocked, but they've righted that ship and won 10 in a row — and convincingly. The pressure, every week, our kids have faced being highly ranked and undefeated, it's just a tribute to both the teams to be able to play through that, fight through adversity and now meet up in the state quarterfinals."

A matchup of top-five teams, the winner of this one could very well play for and win the Class 3A Division I state title in two weeks. Wylie hasn't lost a game all year, beating all but one of its 12 opponents by 18 points or more. Stephenville has outscored its opponents 461-203 since suffering its only loss (21-17) to Monterey (Mex.) Tech in its season opener. Even though this is a region final — and not a state semifinal or championship matchup — this has all the makings of a classic.

Last week: Wylie built a 56-0 halftime lead on Andrews before winning the regional-round matchup by the same score. Stephenville rolled through Kennedale, piling up 700 yards of offense in a 56-24 win over the Wildcats. Today's game between the Bulldogs and Yellow Jackets will be the third ever between the teams. Stephenville won the previous two, earning a 33-21 victory at home in 2010 before routing Wylie 42-14 last year in Abilene.

Stephenville rolled through Kennedale, piling up 700 yards of offense in a 56-24 win over the Wildcats. Today's game between the Bulldogs and Yellow Jackets will be the third ever between the teams. Stephenville won the previous two, earning a 33-21 victory at home in 2010 before routing Wylie 42-14 last year in Abilene.

everybody always forgets about field position..giving either team a short field would seriously hurt the others chances..so special teams and limiting turnovers is vital.

We are all so privileged to be able to watch two teams of this caliber go at it tonight. Like Coach Sandifer said, " It is a shame one of these teams will have their season end tonight."

There is only two other places I have thought about moving too if my job ever changed and that is Aledo or Abilene Wylie area. I can't give any bigger compliment than that.

It's two heavy weights in 3A going head to head and both having goals of advancing another week closer to the ultimate goal -- the 3A Division 1 State Championship. Both communities show class support and will be in full form for tonights game. Wishing safe travel for all fans, parents, and others to and from the game today. It's going to be an amazing atmosphere.

I've managed to stay away from this thread like the plague. In my heart of hearts, I would like to see Wylie win this game. I think Wylie can very well be the winner here, mainly because of it's secondary. But, and here comes the BUT, the Stephenville Yellowjackets have such a good qb and reciever corps. that I have a very difficult time believing they will not score and score and score, regardless of Wylie's vaunted defense. The Yellowjackets are not unbeatable, but it is my opinion they will need to be beaten by a team that can score quickly like they do, and play defense like the Wylie Bulldogs do. If Wylie can get a few turnovers and cash those into scores to get a lead, then Stephenville will be in trouble. As long as the teams trade scores or play even up, I think this favors Stephenville. Most would say the opposite, but it takes only one big play for the Yellowjackets to score. Wylie's speed and secondary is their X factor. Even if Stephenville breaks one, I believe the Wylie secondary will be able to run it down. And then perhaps even limit the Yellowjackets to a a field goal at the most. But I'm going with the Stephenville offense here against that great Wylie defense. I believe it's a tall order to hold down a great offense all nite, esp. with a qb like Stephenville has. Stephenville Yellowjackets 41 Abilene Wylie Bulldogs 31.

I believe Wylie will have success running the ball and match the ville on scores in the first half. The second half Wylie won't be able to keep pace.

Q2 - V 14, W 14
Q3 - V 28, W 21
Q4 - V 38, W 28

Either way who wins, both great teams and great programs will take the title from the Beasts of the East this year.

This is the biggest game of the season in 3A football up to this point. I told Benidict Hollywood on the phone last week that this would Villes biggest challenge. I have had a gut feeling about this game for 2 weeks. I really think Wylie shocks everybody tonight and leaves WF with a victory. Good luck to both teams. You dont get teams this good every year, enjoy it.

Sville in top form, that early season loss was probably a good thing with the way they have played since. It looks like yall would have won a title in 4A or 3A. I think its clear that yall are an avalanche and anyone in the path will be crushed. Watch out for Carthage, they play well late in the season. I don't think Sville will be stopped, they will end the season with a win. Navasota will do the same in D2, that is if they can fade that kick a$$ WOS D.

I haven't seen Kilgore or Carthage this year, but I can't imagine either of those teams having the right formula to beat this team. Just because their defense may not be on the same level as their offense doesn't mean they aren't good. We didn't look sharp at times tonight (and had a couple of big injuries that hurt us) but the Stephenville offense and defense has to take credit for most of it....and I still stand by "the winner of this game takes it all" (in D1 that is)

That was pretty much total domination on both sides of the ball from Ville. Wylie had to pretty much abandon the run in the 3rd qtr and it was all over from there. Congrats Ville! Congrats on a very convincing win by the Yellowjackets last nite over an undefeated top-drawer Wylie team. I pretty much had it figured about right in this one, except the score went a little more over the top in that 4th quarter, lol. You still hafta give some recognition to the Wylie Bulldogs for the great season they had this year. It was a great run for them. And for this Stephenville Steamroller, they still have some work left to do. It's a one-gamer now to get to Jerryworld.....so best be getting the team back on the ground in a hurry, lol. Next week at this time would be the time I reckon we'll be looking forward to a real slugfest for the SC title game, huh? I'm gonna hafta throw my support onto this Steamrollin' Stephenville bandwagon now. Everybody loves a winner, as long as they do it with dignity and respect.

Garcia and I were talking before the game and he voiced his concerns about Wylie's 2nd half conditioning playing a role in this game and I think he was right. You could see late in the 3rd qtr Wylie defensive players trying to stretch out cramps and with hands on their hips. The Jackets wore them down with 37 first downs.

The Bulldogs were the best team we have faced so far this season, and I look forward to future Wylie matchups in all sports as these two schools seem to have a budding rivalry.

(other than Monahans where that wasn't an option) and it showed late in the game. It was also the first time this season being behind on the scoreboard...but proud of the boys for mounting a comeback to briefly take the lead. You guys have a heck of a team overall, and even not knowing what Kilgore and Carthage have this year...I'm gonna say ya'll hoist the trophy at Jerryworld.

I believe in playing your starters all the way up to a few minutes left in the game, the way the jackets played the game last night. The more playing time your starters get the better they will play latter in the season. Again congrats to the Jackets!!! NOW GO WIN STATE!!!

Wow! My only expression of the game last night! Got in early this morning. Went straight to bed, had a soccer tournament early this morning and just now able to reflect on the game.

First of all, want to show my respect to the Abilene Wylie team for a great performance and a great season! Heck of a team and all showed tremendous courage and competitiveness! Congrats to the coaching staff and program overall. A true class act. To the fans that were loud and proud of their team and program as a whole. Class act all the way. What an atmosphere!! And how about that AW band?? Fantastic. Abilene Wylie, I truly got to see a community that fully supports its school with class.

Secondly, congrats to the Yellow Jackets of Stephenville! Great win against a great team. I wasn't sitting comfortably in my seat until late in the 3rd quarter. I believe Stephenville showed last night they are truly special group. Got work to do next week. Keep it rolling!

And thirdly, best wished to the Abilene Wylie seniors on their future endeavors.

I agree. That was the clincher for sure. Wylie went punch for punch for 2.5 quarters and finally made the big turnover. After getting down by 17, they had too much to make up with a ball control offense. Also a few big plays in the first half, the kick off return and the long pass to the goal line kept the dawgs in the game the first half. Ville has upped their game to another level. Kilgore will have a good defense, but not the offense to keep pace. Looks like Ville and Carthage on a collision course.

Not saying Alvarado or Glen Rose was in the same league as Wylie, but you gotta give those two teams credit for how well we played against Ville. District 7 top 3 was still one of the tougher districts in Region 1 this year in 3A.

And btw, Sanchez is tough wideout and will run you over. That lick he dished out was brutal. I did not see #5 return for Wylie. I hope he is okay and did not suffer a serious injury.

Being from Graham, all I can tell u is that this years Carthage team better be alot better than the team that beat Graham a few years ago. If not, Ville will win by 28.

That was the weekest of the three state championship teams and the Dawgs still won the title. You will change your mind about this years Dawgs when you see them. They are very big up front on both sides of the ball. If the Ville can keep Mr. Golden out of the backfield which nobody has done all year even trying to double team him. Our line backers and safetys are big and very fast and have been playing lights out on D in the playoffs. I nor anyone else for that matter knows which team will win it, but if they both make it to the championship, it will be a game for the ages.
We still have to win one more to get there just like the Ville. The two teams that we and the Ville are about to play are very good.

Good assessment 83Indian. Wylie kept clawing and scratching to make it a game and showed they are true competitors. Stephenville eventually over powered Wylie as I reflected earlier they would do.

#10 Sanchez is a great athlete! I've played soccer against him in a league and he is very agile and strong. Heard #5 has a broken collar bone! I wish the young man well! Tough kid!

I believe Wylie will have success running the ball and match the ville on scores in the first half. The second half Wylie won't be able to keep pace.

My prediction

Q1 - V 7, W 7
Q2 - V 14, W 14
Q3 - V 28, W 21
Q4 - V 38, W 28

Either way who wins, both great teams and great programs will take the title from the Beasts of the East this year.

Well I guess this would have been on the money if only 3 quarters were played. Ville offense is on another level.

Congrats to The Stephenville Yellow Jackets. Big, strong, fast. They did to us what we have done 12 times this year--overpower the other team and force them into what they are not. Once we fell down 17 (I think 1st play of the 4th quarter) and had to pass on every down--the wheels came off. We had played our guts out and were locked into a 31-28 battle witth 4 min left in the 3rd... S'ville then wore us out. Lost several key players in the 2nd and 3rd quarters--best lineman (maybe best player on the team), DB/P/K and his backup, WR, etc. No excuses though--you play with what you have and we still had a lot. S'ville just had more.
Great fans, excellent coaching, good sports. If we had to lose, I'm glad it was to a class program like Stephenville. Us having 7 starters on the sideline with season ending injuries or illness did not help our cause at all... but I actually fell better about the loss knowing even if we had been at full strength--S'ville would have likely won. Now go win the damned thing!

No matter how heated the rivalry, or what is on the line in the game, when a player goes down, in that moment he is everyone's son, brother, or friend. It's always moving to me to see the whole stadium pulling for the player.

I don't know if I have ever heard a stadium get that quiet. It was eerie. Then it would explode when he would get back to his feet. That is a great old stadium. Its like you are in the huddle at times.

Well darn, the great Garcia was sitting right next to me and I didn't even no it. We were on the 45 yard line to your right under press box. I was probably the only guy in the stadium wearing a Graham hat.

Broken collar bone for #5. Was really concerned that it was another concussion - believe he had two previously this year.

There was a Sville fan on the bottom row next to the railing who was shaking his freon/propane (?) can over his head all night. Lots of folks were doing that so I'm not sure why he stood out to me, but as it turned out he ended up being pretty entertaining. At one point, he was shaking the thing so hard that his upper body flipped over the railing and the two people next to him pulled him back up by his legs. He was a big ole boy! It was really quite amusing, and impressive that they could hoist him back up!!:1omg!:

And, like others have already mentioned, until about half way through the 3rd qtr. every big play resulted in a massive amount of noise from one side or the other. What a great experience for everyone involved. My only question is about #2. Why Texas State? If he is not a major D1 recruit, then I don't know what one looks like. I've not seen a better, more polished 3A qb. And, looking at him before they had their pads on, he is not even fully developed yet. His upper body could carry alot more. Somebody told me he will be a 17 yr. old graduate. Is this accurate? BTW- nothing against Texas State in earlier comment.

I agree 100%. After players like Kolb, Snead, and Spano play. If scouts consider the latter good enough to go to BCS conference schools then TJ dang sure is. He is as good at the HS level as any of them were IMO.

his throwing motion will scare away a lot of, if not most, big d1 schools.
i'm not saying its not effective at the HS level, but it is what it is.
