I tried looking for video on Navarro's Slot-T but can't find much of anything except one video of one play, which was A Right Tom (or Zip, whatever the coach calls for motion from the TB) Pass 216 Z-Out.

Any film on Navarro out there? I'd love to see it.

From 2010 highliight video some student made. Go to about the 7 minute mark and it has some offense.

Turnovers will decide this game. Wharton had quite a few against Yoakum.
The Tigers can win if they play well. They also had at least 7 holding penalties
Also, Wharton's special teams gave up big returns on kickoffs against the Bulldogs

Nice video, but it's somewhat hard to see. I recognized some of the plays, but Navarro's style of Slot-T is a little different than the Slot-T I'm accustomed to seeing. I guess it varies from coach to coach.

I recall when Port Isabel played Liberty Hill in 2003, their Slot-T was 100% exactly the same style that I was used to playing in back in the day. I believe Larry Vance is still the coach?

Yes and Goad was his OC the first year up there. Should have seen our playoff game the first year in 3a when we beat Liberty Hill. What a game for Slot T fans. Last years game not so good though!

When Wharton played Bellville, they didn't seem adequately prepared to defend the slot t.
Their DL seemed a bit confused at times.
Maybe that has changed since then.

Navarro runs the Slot T very well. After putting up 622 yds rushing on 61 attempts they better get ready. But if it slows down ask Wimberley about the pass. I look forward to a fun and well played game as should be the case this time of year!!

That third and long over the middle was a killer! We only stopped it once but that was the game winner! Good luck Bags! I think there's a very good chance ya'll wil make it to the Region finals. I just hope we can get there too.

I was at the Yoakum/Wharton game last nite. I don't think that stat adjuster takes into account Wharton's qb Grissom missing from a few games, lol. Last nite, he was on the money with his throws, and the overall team speed of Wharton was very evident. It looked like Grissom was the ingredient that fueled the offensive engine. Yes, the Wharton defense did give up some long k/0 returns, and one 97 yarder from scrimmage to the fast and elusive Yoakum qb. Overall, Wharton showed it belonged. They did make some mistakes both offensively and defensively, but still won. If they played cleaner, the score would not have been as close, IMO. Sorry Yoakum faithful, but that's what it looked like.

How did Wharton do against Bellville and their slot T? Navarro has 5,069 yds total offense and 4422 rushing! Can Wharton slow that down after putting up 622 yds rushing last week! Just saying.....

Manso/V8
11-19-2012, 08:56 PM
Wharton did not seem well prepared for the Bellville game, perhaps it was the slot t scheme, the fact that they were playing without the QB Grissom, or that they just came off of a huge emotional loss to their district foe and country rival El Campo. Here is the box score of the Bellville-Wharton game. I sure the game would have been closer if Grissom had been playing.

Those are some pretty impressive offensive stats until you consider the weak district and weak schedule for Navarro. Just saying.....

Ok what is weak? Antonian, SAC, Holy Cross, Marion , Wimberley and Boerne all went to the playoffs. Yea Houston Scarbourogh was a tough one along with some others!

Whartons opp. through 11 games are a combined 51-67

Navarros opp. through 11 games are a combined 65-50 with a State Champion in the mix. Weak I don't think so. 1 0-10 team vs 2 0-10 and a 1-9 team? Just saying....

It's generally not hard to have winning records and make the playoffs in Region IV in 4a and 3a.

Especially when you get outside district 25 and 26 in 3a.

Look no further than what former Region 3 doormat Calhoun has done in 4A Region IV.

Most of the teams in d25 and d26 were in 4a or in R3 the last two years.
I am not foolish enough to think the rest of the region is weak, even if it was, this is playoff time and anything can happen.

I know that d27 is ok, and I am sure Navarro is a good team.
It's just fun to poke at yall about it, because yall are so sensitive about it.
Maybe that means you think there is some truth to it?

Wharton got run over by a 1-dimensional Devine in last year's playoffs. No reason to think that won't happen again seeing as how Devine was also from a weak district like Navarro!

You are right, R4 - d25 was pretty weak last year apart from West Columbia (D1).
We scrimmaged Wharton and played Sweeny in pre-district last year and I was really surprised those two last as long as they did in the playoffs.

With the realignment d25 is a lot different this year with El Campo, Bellville, Wharton, and Sealy.
El Campo was definitely the superior power team.
Bellville is a solid d2 team, probably similar to Wimberley.
Wharton has a lot of really good athletes and can be dangerous.
I think you are familiar with Sealy.

I'm not saying that Wharton will beat Navarro or vice-versa, it just seems that the Navarro folks are awful nervous about playing Wharton.

My point was not that there aren't good teams in Region IV outside 25 & 26.

I just don't think the other districts are as deep. Wimberly and Navarro are obviously quality teams that would do well in almost any district.

But most districts below 25 & 26 have one maybe two quality teams. I'd say 25 had 4 teams that would have been either 1 or 2 in almost any other region IV district.

Just my opinion.

Well, Boerne was D27's 3rd place team and they got killed by Somerset.

I watched Somerset get absolutely rolled by El Campo last night.

They were on the level of Brookshire Royal and Needville out of D25.

Wonder if Grissom improved enough this week to run the ball? Against us, he never ran and handed the ball off every time. It took us a while to figure that out, and by then we were down 28-0. But, he was very successful in throwing the quick routes and very accurate. Night and day difference from when I seen him last year versus Devine in Sinton.

So, if he still isn't healed, I look for Navarro to totally commit to the RB on running plays and ignore Grissom.

Should be a good game. Wharton very fast of defense and against this type offense, that isn't always helpful. Staying home, hitting every RB that comes to your gap and not freelancing is the way to stop the slot-T IMO.

That's funny. A lot of "experts" said the same thing when Port Isabel played Rice Consolidated. Then look what happened. If you're unfamiliar with what I'm referring to, a little research goes a long way. But if you insist on continuing to underestimate Port Isabel, then be our guest. Nah, was a while back. 2003 State Quarterfinals. But the point was, everyone on this board kept saying Rice was going to run circles around PI all day long. And that simply wasn't the case at the end of the day.

But I digress, I apologize for derailing the thread. Wasn't my intention at all until Saggy flapped his gums. Good luck to both Navarro and Wharton.

bag - I never said Navarro was weak. I didn't even say who I thought was going to win. I did say that Wharton did not seem prepard to defend the slot t scheme when they played Bellville. No offense who every wins Region 4 wont beat Region 3 anyways in my opinion! But good win for the Panthers.

I think Wimberley did last year?

For sure R3 would be the favorite at this point, but a lot can happen between now and then.

bag - I never said Navarro was weak. I didn't even say who I thought was going to win. I did say that Wharton did not seem prepard to defend the slot t scheme when they played Bellville. I would have thought they would have figured that out and prepared for it. Maybe they just didn't have the horses to stop the running game.
its simple 3 of whartons losses came to team running ball control offeneses GN and Bellville have thei own brand of Ricebird football
run run run
run over them
run around them
run through them
keep the ball away from them
didnt someone do this to the tune of two state title ande asemiffinal run a few years ago Who was that? Liberty Hill?

Wimberly was like #1 all year last year and they paired well with anyone but I don't see any of these teams beating the likes of a Navasota, La Marque, WOS or Silsbee. I have seen Bellville play this year and they are good but to one dimensional and sounds like Navarro are the same.

Bellville is not the one dimensional team you might think. Both Navarro and Bellville can throw it with success if needed.
