Officiating Question - Wylie Game

Last night early in the Wylie game, Wylie completed a short pass for about 12 yards for a first down, the whistle blew early, before the player was down and while he has trying to fight for more yards he fumbled the ball while going to the ground (don't know if he was officially down or not, but Clint did recover the ball)

The officials convened and decided to replay the down - 2nd and 6, because of the early whistle. Why would it not be Wylie ball where the player was when the whistle blew or be a turnover, I don't remember ever seeing or hearing of a redo because of a early whistle.

Yes, team with the ball when whistle was blown has the options. Result of play, or replay. Since fumble was ending result, they selected to replay and keep the ball. Keep whistles out of your mouth officials.

Bad mistake by the guy on that crew. Inadvertent whistle.
