they only had 1st string still in because stephenville held the ball for only 2:30 in the 2nd and 3rd quarters COMBINED. probably wanted to get them some reps coming off the bye week.

Waco – No. 3 Stephenville (9-1) amassed 562 yards of offense and scored touchdowns on its first seven possessions in a 56-27 rout of Burnet (5-6) in the opening round of the 3A Division I playoffs at Waco ISD Stadium Friday.

Stephenville faces Kennedale in the area round at 2 p.m. next Friday in Mineral Wells.





Tyler Jones passed for four touchdowns and rushed for one - all in the first half - and Stephenville led 49-6 at the break. Two of his scoring passes went to Brice Gunter, including a highlight reel 52-yard catch-and-run on which he broke a handful of tackles. The other TD passes went to Jarrett Stidham and Brock Morrison, while Alex Sanchez and Whitt Westbrook rushed for scores of 53 and 38 yards, respectively.





Stephenville's lone second-half score came on a 89-kickoff return by Preston Brown. Cameron Langley scored all four of Burnet's touchdowns including an 81-yard reception in the final minute.

One thing that we didn't do well last night, that I am glad got exposed in a blowout was our onside kick coverage. Burnet was 2-3 recovering onside kicks and very easily could of been 3-3. Ironically the only time they kicked it deep we returned it 90 yds for a TD. They used those squibbly little kicks that barely go 10 yards. It was like a grease pig contest out there. I expect that will be something that is worked on, because you can bet we will see that again and prolly in a situation where we need to recover to win.
