First Texas coach I was aware of and by far my favorite. He knew when to hang it up, too (major hint to a man with the initials "MB").

I disagree. He is not one of the greatest college coaches of all time. He is one of the greatest coaches period of all time.

Darrell K. Royal>>>a man from humble beginnings that became larger than life. We should all feel a loss from his passing. I met him in 1974 after a game....he and Earl Campbell. These were two really good people. I attended the last game Darrel Royal ever coached, and watched as the team carried him off the field. It was a hair-raising experience.

According to Spike Dykes, it was a collaborative effort.

Yep, and it was Royal who introduced it to college football in 1968.

Story I always heard was Royal and staff worked on it together..Royal was key in some of the OL schemes, he wanted more emphasis on angle blocks and not just straight forward smashmout blocking
