After a strong start going up 14-0 midway into the 1st quarter the Bulldog offense opened up with a 75 yard run by their fast qb. The extra point was blocked making it 14-6. No scoring in the second quarter to go in 14-6 Leps. The Leps scored on a nice drive in the third but Yoakum responded quickly with a 75 yard pass td and made a 2 point conversion . The Bulldogs scored again on a long pass play to their tall wr who was a mismatch for our 5'9" db. Extra point was good 21-21. In the 4th La grange had a long drive running minutes off the clock to score PAT good 28-21. Yoakum came back on an interception and scored on a long pass play to again have the PAT blocked. LG 28- 27. Lg then took the ball on the 20 after the kick off and drove down to the 40 yardline 4th and 2 with 1:35 left on the clock. The Leps then on play action passed to Fillmore in the left flat who slipped two tacklers and was running into the endzone but Wait there's more...he slides to the 1. Ist and goal a minute or so left LG goes into victory formation running out the clock with 4 knees denying the fast striking Bulldog offense an opportunity to score. LG goes 4-0 with another nailbitter. Great game for Yoakum a real scrapping tenacious football team. Hope yall win next week to make the playoffs. Go Leps beat Cuero.

As expected folks are saying another one point win by the Leps but taking the ball into the endzone on that play would have put the Leps up by 8 giving over a minute to the Bulldogs to tie it up with one of their bombs. We had a real mismatch defending their tall wr who could jump up to catch the ball and had break away speed. That was the biggest threat for us as we basically stopped the Bulldog running game(with the exception of a nice 75 yard qb keeper in the 1st quarter) and short pass game. Yoakum was striking suddenly and giving them the ball with a minute to go might have been all they needed. Going into OT with them would have been a crap shoot so in short Coach Kates wins this on superior coaching strategy and Filmore took one for the team. It must have been difficult to not run into the end zone on such a great effort but he wisely went down with the slide on the 2.
