View Full Version : The moment it all changed...

This is the moment it all changed for the Stephenville Yellow Jackets. You see we had been a doormat for years and the step child of Brownwood for the last 27 years before 1990. They were in our heads, if we good just beat Brownwood. We finally did and it gave us the confidence, the belief that we could beat anybody and did and have ever since. Every program has that defining win that propels them to the next level. This was ours in my opinion, and oh what a night it was.

WOW... more memories than I care to share.

I'm in that video somewhere. I'm #12 SS/RB. Wearing white and maroon. #33 for Brownwood Keven Green, moved in his Soph year from Tyler. Took my RB job! lol Talk about a workhorse stud! He was 5'10" 235 lbs and bench pressed 425 lbs during football season. He benched 500 lbs that next summer after our Sr year before going off to ACU!!! Program changing game for the Ville but a very bad ending for the Wood!

I remember that night well. My senior year unfortunately. It was a long 60 miles back to Brownwood that night..

I was a soph. on crutches after my ACL blow out a few weeks earlier in my JV game but my knee didn't hurt that night. They left the lights and scoreboard on well after midnight that Friday night.

Haha.. good try toddg! Of course this was a hi-lite of the Sville faithful and a story of what this meant to the community of Stephenville. So not much footage on Brownwood. But, it's all in the past now. I've become good friends with some of the '90 Jackets. There not so bad after all. ;)

Actually, I remember thinking after that game on the long and lonesome ride back to Brown County... they ran to the opposite side of where I was lined up on D most of the night. They didn't want none of me! ;)

I did suffer a knee injury that night in the first half. We were up 17-14. :D

In all honesty, the difference maker in that game was Coach Briles. He is the master mind of halftime adjustments. And the fact that they lined their 6'2" WR across from our 5'6" CB the entire second half! I swear they scored 21 2nd half points on that mismatch alone!

That was very cool. I think the players from 2012 Ville would enjoy watching it if they havent already.
So Im curious whats the record from that night until now with the wood?:helpme:

Very inspiring. We kind of feel that way since 2010. We had never made it to the semi-final game in football until 2010. State Final 2011. It does feel good to win!

Very lopsided!

15-5 to be exact. Since 1990, they've played 20 games and were in different districts 3 of those years.

No I was the smart one and got out of there as fast as I could after Wood and Allen left!

Years in Brownwood = 7
Years in Stephenville = 17

Oddly enough, it was the double OT win against Ville in (I Think) '97 that put us back on track. After that, there were some unbelievable games until the UIL separated us.

Lol.. You know I'm just kidding! I love the Lions and always will. I'm a maroon blood having some fun on here. I have always supported the Lions and Jackets. Just not the Jackets so much when playing against each other. It got to the point that I lost track of the Lions. I've lived here longer than I ever did in the Wood. Maybe if I was born and raised in the Wood I wouldn't have left. I wasn't so here I am. Still love the Lions. It's time to turn a new chapter. My kids are raised here. I support the team they are apart of.

How about the triple OT Wood/Ville game in 1996?? I don't think anyone sat down from the beginning of the 4th qtr through 3 OT's! Great game

Sville, you should post the 1998 Stephenville/Brownwood game. Another classic! Only blemish on Stephenville's season that year was the district loss to Brownwood in a thriller.

Nice Sville!

This was fun watching the archived games... especially the SC games vs La Marque. And the Dunbar game. No one can say Stephenville hasn't ever faced speed! lol
