Cuero coming off a 41-28 setback to Giddings, in the opening of district.
Yoakum wins on the road at Smithville, 27-24

Both teams will feature a very talented soph in their offense:

Cuero's D'Anthony Hopkins rushed for 179 yards on 23 carries, and 2 TD's vs. Giddings

Yoakum's Tre' Hights rushed for 118 yards on 16 carries, 1 TD and completed 4 of 7 passes against SV.

Awwww, love that guy. Now, that's a supporter. He wore that stuff (shorts) a few years back when Cuero played Gilmer at Sam Houston University, and it was like 20 degrees.

OG, this should be a classic matchup up. Don't ya think? Cuero now has a solid two-headed monster in Hopkins and Reeve. We;ll have our hands full on your home turf. We sure seem to play to a higher level on the road, and thrive on those against us. Trust me, we fully respect Cuero and know thet are very talented and we'l take nothing for granted. IOur preparation began at 9AM this morning, and I see a aggressive week of practice heading into what is the longest running 3A rivalry in the state. Over 100 meetings between the schools, and we are aware of your lopsided wins over us.

Good luck, and let's have a injury free contest for both schools and let's please the multi thousands in attendance for this key matchup. Can't over emphasize Yoakum fans, get there 1 1/2 hours prior to KO, to secure a seat on the visitor side. Love just once, to not have Gob's on the visitors side stands. I hate it with passion seeing it occur. Yoakum appears to step up their performances on the road. Thrive on all the cheers against us.

GO BIG BLUE, GATA!!!!

Only thing here you said that holds water BG61, the "hands down" part. The ref's will not raise them as often for you as they did this past Friday, signaling a TD. My prediction comes Weds. Same bet as last year my friend?

Friday can't get here fast enough. I too will make my prediction on Wednesday night. Throw out all records and stats in this one. It will basically come down to who wants it bad enough. In year's past, Cuero had so much firepower, that pure determination, desire and heart by the 'Dogs wasn't enough to upset the Gobblers. Well that was then and this is now. Yoakum was a near double-digit favorite last season in their own back yard and it still took a late TD and INT to get that victory. I can guarantee you that Cuero will come out fired up and ready to play, especially since we ended their long district winning streak last year. We have to match that intensity. True, this is a huge game for both teams, but Cuero can ill-afford to go 0-2 in district and still hope to make the playoffs. This is pretty much their playoffs. I'm sure our boys know what's at stake here and will work hard this week, but so will the boys down the road. It's been a very long time since Yoakum has won two in a row against Cuero (2000 and 2001) and one of those years was the last time we won on their turf. I feel good by what I saw in Smithville. I saw enthusiasm and emotion. In the face of adversity, the Bulldogs kept fighting. Everyone contributed and it was truly a "TEAM" win in all aspects of the game. When a play had to be made, somebody different always stepped up. Like Coach Kornegay said after the game--- we all made a mistake and there were plenty in the game, but we fought through them. Yoakum is 4-2 on the season and could very easily be 6-0 and the Bulldogs have yet to play their best game. In fact, they are far from playing their best and the players know that. What better way to get focused and try to show off that "best game" this week than by playing the Cuero Gobblers in the Fox Sports Southwest Dairy Queen "Big Game of the Week"? This year will mark the 102nd meeting between Yoakum and Cuero, the longest Class 3A football rivalry in the State of Texas. Following is a composite of the scores dating back to the very first game played in 1911, in which Yoakum won, 7-6.

txsportswriter, dawgfan64, trueblue, what ya'll think of the "Rabid Dog" formation (other's call it the wildcat) with Tre' in at QB? I think we have a nice 1, 2 punch at the QB position, that can cause some opponent's game planning issues. Teams have to respect us deep on the bomb with QB's airing it out to the tall speedster WR's Ratley and TJ, and now the "Rabid Dog" running loose. Tre' can wing it deep too, so--can't say it will be a run when he enters. And, Chase can pull it and make the corner himself, so--it's not going to be a pass when he's in there. Been waiting all year for this. Now, throw in the "up the gut" quickness as well, can be very productive. Key to it all, line stay engaged like this week and things can happen with this offense we now have in place.:2thumbsup

Only 7 outright Yoakum victories in the last 50 years. Those opportunities don't come along often for Yoakum. They will be fired up.

Hope the Gobblers can pull this one out. Gobblers are due for some good luck for once this year.

Yup, ya'll have owned us in the past crabman for sure. Maybe we can start another majority winning streak like we had from 1929-1946 against ya? Last year might of been the start of it. I know we are fully focused at the task ahead of us. Not easy to win there.

D'Anthony Hopkins can very well be the difference maker in this one. Must contain him, and not let the big play happen. Blake Reeve will get his too, just need to keep all the action in front of us. Very talented Gob's team. They look very good on HUDL. Maybe the best line play in district?

Education Foundation honoring Gilbreth Friday

The Cuero ISD Education Foundation and CHS Football Players who were coached by Buster Gilbreth during the years 1969-1979 will be honoring Coach Gilbreth on Oct. 19 at the Cuero/Yoakum Football game scheduled at Gobbler Stadium.
A reception will begin at 5:45 p.m. in the CHS cafetorium for the football players and guests who would like to visit with Gilbreth before the halftime ceremony.
Contributions to be made in his honor may be made out to the Cuero ISD Education Foundation. With the monies pledged to Gilbreth an Excellence in Education Grant will be awarded each year in honor of Gilbreth.
Any information about this can be obtained from Ray Reese at 361-275-5701, Jeff Ray at 915-832-7200 or Debra Baros at 361-275-6718.
From 1973-1975 the Gobblers won 44 consecutive games which still ranks today as the longest winning streak in U.I.L. history in the 3A classification. During that streak they had an amazing 26 shutouts over the 44 game span: 9 in 1973, 9 in 1974 and 8 in 1975.
It has been estimated between 200 and 250 young men played for Coach Gilbreth in the 10 years he coached here. It is hoped to establish an endowed grant in his honor.
Donations can be made to Cuero ISD Education Foundation at P.O. Box 987, Cuero, TX 77954.

UIL says visitors are entitled to 1/2 the seats.

What is to say that someone is a visitor or a home fan? Maybe even though they were from Cuero, and wearing green b/c there isn't another color to purchase in Cuero; they were really there to go for the visitor team. This is a stretch, and pretty much impossible and unlikely, but theoretically a descent argument with UIL if it came up.

Also, I would assume after the visitors have taken their seats, the rest are free game, right?

I wouldn't get up and go to the restroom, without someone to save your seat.

I will say I have seen at a couple of our High School baseball games that the visiting fans tried to sit on our side of the field behind home plate when there were seats open on their side and they had to move to allow our fans to sit right behind home plate, you have to split it right down the middle. Needless to say their fans were not to happy but they did move.

Ok, here it goes. Dog's know the stakes in this one. And, what happened this time last year when they took someone lightly. Be shocked to see them coming out flat, then try to find it when it's too late against Cuero this Friday night. Dog's aware the importance of this business trip. And, how talented and determined Cuero will be. Some thought Giddings was fast, I kinda think we are faster than the Buff's overall. I don't see who they have that can contain our wideouts consistently. I also think our OL will control the LOS and give our passing game time to execute. The "Rabid Dog" formation then will have some series, on a "D" on their heels and will be productive IMO.

D'Anthony, Blake and Ross will get theirs for the Gobblers. That's a given. They are blessed athletes IMO. I just think we will contain them more often, keep them in front of us, and pressure the pocket and limit their success. Game will be close first half, then the Dog's speed takes over in the 2nd half, for a 38-21 Yoakum win.

GATA Dog's!!!!Finish.

I will never blame you for your homerism, but I think your "I think we are faster than Giddings" statement is funny. Your schedule with your record makes that a funny statement.

I haven't seen Yoakum yet, so maybe they are faster than Giddings? Hence, I don't know who will win this game, but would not be too surprised to see Cuero throw a wrinkle in things with a win in this game.

You have no clue what we did player wise/game planning in our ND schedule either. Who played, and where and who was out. Our goal in ND was to try and gain some depth. Then, we sustained some crucial player injury's. Now, other then the one OL'er out for the year, we are finally full strength for once all year in last week's SV game. And, those 2nd stringers we used routinely in ND games, are not seeing much action in district. No, we are not deep, but--I'll put our skilled players, secondary and LB'ers over anyone's speed wise, in the district. Hoping that finally game is for all the marbles.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that it is highly unlikely that Yoakum has more team speed than Giddings. I am not gonna say that you aren't fast, I've seen Yoakum but unless you have seen the speed that Giddings has then I suggest you not make such a bold statement. I would bet Cuero isn't watching film this week saying crap these guys are faster than Giddings. Just saying

This is true, and no--I have not seen Giddings in person. And, video does speed no justice really. We'll know each others when we square off at Bulldog Stadium, last game of season. Appears both teams have a couple sprint relays on their football team.

This will be a first for this year as D Anthony and Logan will both be playing at the same time and with our workhorse Justin K all on “D” we will be at full strength for the first time . I also like seeing Hudson and Blake playing some D also.

BG61, gonna buy me a blizzard at your DQ Friday?

Kidding, I cannot make it there for that Fox Sports Southwest DQ episode filming. I'll be helping with the Bulldog send off here at 4:30, then onto the Bulldog Tailgate Bash over in Cuero at 5PM. Swing by for a smoked leg and RC cola and a moon pie. Awwww, Friday is getting closer Clem.:cheerl:

Last one leaving YT, cut the lights off.

Sorry I didn't get on to put my two cents in the past couple of days. Been real busy trying to conjure up what I would say as CowboyUp suggests. LOL. Usually put my prediction on here on Wednesday evenings.
Well it's Thursday mid-morning and my crystal ball shows a Bulldog victory in convincing fashion, 41-20. Harris has this game as a Pick 'Em and judging by this poll, it's a toss up as well.
Yoakum can win this game in convincing fashion if they buckle down and execute, but if the 'Dogs have an off game, it could be close.
Also looking forward to an exciting JV game tonight as the Cuero JV comes in undefeated while the Yoakum JV squad has just one loss.
GO BULLDOGS!!!

It seems both of these teams have had their ups and downs this season, I guess it comes down to which team will be up this week. I know Cuero has tradition and also being at home but I think Yoakum gets it done, Yoakum by a FG.

Oh we have send offs, However we save them up for the playoffs. HAHA, we can generally count on them. You also don't see me on here telling all of you about them and how many FNB and INOT and other businesses' employees come out and join the rest of the community to wave flags and signs and all that cheesy stuff. Good for the boys and girls teams when they advance to the playoffs to see that support. But I see no reason to get on here and tell people from other communities about that gooshy stuff. It is what you do in small towns, good stuff, for the kids not posters on this board.

Good luck tonight, I think yalls game is going to be an interesting one.

Thanks Pud and Old green. Pleassure meeting you at the Bulldog Tailgate Bash. Hope you enjoyed the friendship and the grub. Yes, it was a hard fought game till then end, and both teams left it out on the field. We will have aour work cut out against GX next week. I picked them as the district favorite from the start, and we better have sometype of game plan to try and limit The Diesel massive running style.

Rumors sure went wild over CJ. But, you never know for sure until KO I guess. Congrats on ya'lls win. These rivalry games can be boogers at times. We are thankful we had another "team" effort win. Cuero is a quality team for sure, and we just happen to make one big play on them, that was the difference. The "Rabid Dog" formation once again was very productive, and using our 6 back attacks, keeps the ball carrier all fresh when his number is called to contribute. Now, if I can stay up till midnight, to catch all the DQ Big Game of the Week stuff.

Just the 2nd-step in obtaining our teams goal we set after last years drumming by Sam Houston. Bitter taste staying home after week 10. GZ game planning starts at 0900 Saturday morning.

What you think of Tre' Hights? Not bad for a soph and only his 2nd game of the year. Run's the "Rabid Dog" formation to perfection. Ya'lls backs #20, and #28 were very productive as well. Can't turn the rock over though.
