It is Johnny Weissmuller as Jungle Jim in the 1951 movie Jungle Manhunt in which Jungle Jim searchers for a pro football player Bob Miller played by former great NFL QB Bob Waterfield. It starts at 11 P.M. this Saturday on TCM. Maybe not a good time for you so you may want to watch it later. These movies were part of double features and were low budget and filmed cheaply and quickly but still they were fairly good for the Grade B movies they were.

Johnny Weissmiller plays Jungle Jim and was a great world record setting swimmer and won 5 gold medals at the 1924 and 1928 Olympics. He also won a bronze medal by being on our water polo team at the 1924 Olympics. He is mainly known for being in the Tarzan movies from 1932 to 1948 and many consider him the best Tarzan ever. In 1948 he was in his forties and felt like he was too old to play Tarzan so he made Jungle Jim movies from 1948 to 1955 and was in the Jungle Jim tv series. Jungle Jim was adopted from the popular Jungle Jim comics and he did a good job in that role as he did when he portrayed Tarzan.

Bob Waterfield who plays Bob Miller was a great hall of fame NFL QB. He played college at UCLA in the early 40s and served in the military in WW2. He was drafted in 1945 by the then Cleveland Rams where he was popular. As a rookie he led the Rams to the NFL championship game and they won it over Washington 15 to 14. Bob was the first and only rookie to win MVP and unanimous all pro. The Rams moved to Los Angeles in 1946 and he played for them until he retired in 1952. He was not only a great QB for the Rams but played DB for them his first four years and was a great kicker for them. During his career he had a great 42.2 yard punting average and made 315 PATs and 60 field goals. In 1949 the Rams drafted another great QB Norm Van Brocklyn with whom he shared QB duties until he retired after the 1952 season. The dual QB situation worked here as they Rams made the NFL championship from 1949 to 1951. Remember back then there were no super bowls and the NFL was divided between Eastern Conference and Western Conference teams and the teams with the best records in those divisions met in December for the NFL Championship games. The Rams lost 2 close NFL games in 1949 and 1950 but won it in 1951. Brocklyn was the winning QB in that game because he started and had a hot game but Waterfield's kicking provided the winning margin. He was married to the great actress Jane Russell from 1943 to 1967 when they got a divorce.

In 1949 the Rams lost the NFL championship game to Philadelphia 0 - 14. They lost it again in 1950 by 28 to 30 to the Cleveland Browns and their great qb Otto Grahm. Cleveland got another team and they were to have success in the 50s . In 1951 it was the Rams turn to beat Cleveland 24 to 17.
