Congrats to Homer! I got the pleasure to see him pitch several times for LG, he is a great kid & could really throw some heat.

—— Baseball ——

Lorena 5, La Grange 1: In College Station, senior Cliff Springston pitched six strong innings and helped his own cause with a three-run home run in the Lorena Leopards' Class 3A regional quarterfinal victory over their oft-playoff rival the La Grange Leopards.

Springston moved to 12-2 with the victory, while Adam Hornung came on in the seventh to close the book on La Grange (20-6), which beat Lorena in a one-game regional semifinal playoff last year.

Lorena (25-5) moves on to face either Barbers Hill or Lufkin Hudson, two other teams the Leopards have met in recent playoff runs.

Homer Bailey pitched the one-game playoff the year before.

Homer throws the last No Hitter of last year and the first No Hitter of this year , kid got it going on. Also sent a great text to my son and the Leps before their State Championship game this year, some good things going on in Lep Country. Congrats Homer.

ESPN focused on his ninth inning performance

He was " owning " it.

Congrats. Remember reading about the pitching duels between Bailey and those Yoakum pitchers.

Did any of those Yoakum pitchers make it to the majors?

I was able to watch the whole game, it was awesome. Homer really cranked it up starting about the 6th. He was 91-93 up to that point. He started feeling it and dialed it up to 95-97 at the end of the game. His fastball was so good that I only saw one slider, to a left handed batter, in the last 3 or 4 innings. I remember his curve being so dominant in high school but he didnt even need it. His fastball command was tremendous last night. Congrats.

In his High School days , the curve was the one pitch he struggled with. In his Junior summer he worked with his pitching coach to develope a better breaking pitch , after signing with the Reds is when he developed his best offspeed pitches. Homer is just one of those kids that has a work ecthic second to none, he will be the Ace of the staff before long.

In 2004 Baseball America in its draft preview selected Homer Bailey's fastball as the #1 fastball for high schoolers in the nation. They also selected his curveball as the #1 curveball in the nation.

strange note

he has highest career ERA of any player to throw more than one no hitter in history of MLB
