LaVega brought back the house from last years team that was 1 yard short of beating the D1 state champs. Playing on their home field I think the Ville pulls out the win but not by much.

Hey, you know your team, go with what you know.. I've gotten beef from some in the past when I was bold on my predictions. In the end, I was right most of the time. When you know your team and how good they are, that can be a hard pill for others to swallow.

Living in Waco I'll give you some advanced warning. The traffic into the stadium his terrible. One way in and one way out. We past by there 2 weeks ago on our way to the Bosqueville game and the traffic was lined about a half mile on loop 340. I think that Stephenville should win this game, but, I want to give all you Ville fans some early warning.

I have watched LaVega football for years and they always play up to the competition. They are not flashy, they don't do anything that you see a special in videos. They won't be the biggest or fastest teams you will see. What they do well is adjust their game to what is being given to them. They will keep trying until they find something that works and then just keep running that play until you stop it. LaVega never wins games pretty. They claw, scratch, pound, and find a way to win. Don't think for a minute that jumping on them early will cause them to lay down. They will not give up until the last second has officially run off the clock.

This game will be a really tough match-up for you guys. If you relax, even a little, and they get any momentum you are in trouble.

The ville should win based on pure talent, but don't underestimate the heart of the Pirates.

There won't be any bulletin board material unless it is created by someone not on the team. Not their style. They will play hard and give it everythign they have. I just don't see them being able to hang with an FCS school.

I think the Jackets had better prepare for LaVega like they did for Aledo, and be just as pumped up, or they might get surprised. I think the Jackets win by 7, but LaVega is one of a handful of 3A teams who can give them a game for 4 Quarters, and have a chance of being on the long side of the score at the gun.

WLV will be #1 in a lot of preseason polls, maybe 2 but certainly top 5. If stephenville beats WLV by 4 TDs, im willing to hand them the championship trophy that night.


Stephenville 7-3 at worst in regular season probably 8-2, and wins their playoff games until the semis, then goes home. JMO

I'd like to think that LaVega could stay close to the Yellowjackets, but barely getting past Palestine doesn't bode well for them against a much better team in Sville. They'll have to play lights out on both sides of the ball just to make it a game. I'll have to go with Stephenville in this one by at least 3 TD's. I think LaVega probably has a pretty good football team, but they'll have to prove it to me this week against some stiff competition.

The point about the AP poll is that it is based on opinion, record and box scores. In that order (heavily weighted by opinion) and doesn't take much else into account.

This game should draw a pretty decent crowd, numbers wise.

I think La Vega will struggle trying to defend the high octane offense Stephenville has. Well balanced pass and run. Young O-line is big, strong and starting to gel. Stephenville's D has improved greatly against the run. Veteran D-line has made their stamp so far this season and will continue to dominate. Great athletes on both sides of the ball. Looking for a close game at the half.. 2nd half, La Vega will get blown out.

I don't see La Vega having enough to hold off the air raid attack of the Jackets. I just don't see it. La Vega will be forced to try to chunk the rock the 2nd half. Bad news for them.

Looking forward to this one.. Jackets first game against a 3A this season!

Alvarado schedule is cake walk. So I cant judge the team to much yet. Actually I think they are for real in 3A. The talent level for players in 3A is there but as far as teams go. There isnt many that can hang with Ville or Aledo caliber teams. PERIOD. Prove us wrong!!!

Haha! I've seen some good 3a teams over the years, but the ville may just be the best in a while. I wish you guys luck this season. I'm going to try to make the Glen Rose/ville and Alvarado/ville games this year. After that performance against Aledo, it's looking pretty good for you guys, but I've learned to never underestimate those boys about an hour east of y'all. THAT should be a game to see!!!

WLV is going to be quick and well coached, They wont have the size Sville has, but will likely have more team speed. This match is certainly a GOTW, should be a good one.

Sure some Stephenville fans are overconfident. I doubt that overconfident fans will get this team beat. It has nothing to do with disrespecting La Vega. We just know our team and what they are capable of, as Rocket used to put it... Only Stephenville can beat Stephenville (minus the Burnwood).

That being said, our coaches and players know that no team is going to lay down for us (remember the Alamo). The are working harder this week than last week. Full pads and full bore all 3 days so far - even with the short week this week. The players have to play and they are the ones that have to keep a level head and not get too cocky.

Congrats to La Vega for getting beat in the playoffs by the eventual SC. I can tell you from experience that it sucks. Who have they played this year? We have exercised our demons from our playoff losses and believe we are ready for the Pirates. If our the Ville D shows up like it has for the past 2 weeks.... look out.

I really don't see how believing my team is better than yours and expecting them to win is diss'in your team. If that is how you feel then so be it. This will be the first time I have ever seen LV play and look forward to it. They remind me a lot of some of the good Everman teams in what they try to do. This game will come down to whether the QB can consistently threaten the Sville defense downfield, b/c I believe that LV will not be able to grind the football out on us. If the LV QB can keep us honest then it will be a battle, if not then I think my team rolls.

Either Palestine in that good, or LaVega had a bad game. Either way, I'm not convinced LaVega can go toe to toe with Stephenville. Gave up too much offense to Palestine(who should have won that game). You need a great D to beat the Yellowjackets, and I don't think LaVega has that.

Whatever, you are right the only team that stopped La Vega tonight was La Vega. Okay, Rocket. I love how y'all mock Rocket for his antics yet seem to act just like him when your team loses. This has how this entire site has been. No wonder he got burned out here. Take your whooping like a man. La Vega is a good team but they don't need this stigma surrounding them. They have a good duo in the back field and some good defensive lineman.

It was a great test for both teams. Ville forced the turnovers to change the game. Love how the Pirates never gave up.

Some things I was wrong on;

1. LV is a legit top 5 team
2. They were able to run the football on us better than I thought
3. It took the Jackets all 4 qtr to put the Pirates away

Some things I was right on;

1. We were 21 points better than LV last night
2. LV's ability to consistently throw the ball will determine how close this game will be
3. They were not balanced enough to beat us.
