Navasota is winning the pollsters number one position, but, I am a Navasota fan that believes that there are about 8 teams that still have a legitimate claim to being number one at year's end. Navasota is among them, but Stephenville, Carthage, LaMarque, LaVega, West Columbia,
Coldspring, and Wimberley will all be ready come playoff time. No one will get to the finals with ease. Every week at playoff time will be a battle.

The Jacket defense played an outstanding game. They held Ozen and returning 20-4A offensive MVP Jakobi Jones at RB to 8 yards rushing for the game. Ozen had negative yards at halftime. They constantly gave the Jacket offense a short field. Offensively I felt we left some points out there especially in the 1st halfl. Jones under threw one sure TD pass and Gunter dropped another one. Other than that not much else to harp on from the Jackets. It was a good showing against a 4A team that went 3 rounds last year.

The Jackets were Dominant from start to finish. The score could have easily been in the upper 40's or lower 50's.

They were not very good upfront, pretty lazy after first contact. Their secondary was legit though. #4 Tony Brown is deserving of his recruit rankings, and their band was very entertaining.

Go figure. Stephenville loses to Monterrey Tech, beats Aledo, and Aledo pummels Monterrey Tech. That kind of surprised me. Stephenville does look like the real deal, but so does Navasota. Avarado looks good also, and Coldspring-Oakhurst beat a highly regarded LaMarque team. This is one of those years where nothing is cut and dried about who "should" be number 1. It just goes to show that rankings don't mean anything. They are fun to look at though.

Waterboy your exactly right. to add to your point Highland Park who is always regarded as one of the best 4A teams in the state year in and out gets destroyed by Aldeo week one and turns around and spanks Monterrey Tech and they are still ranked #10 in 4A. Rankings are for fans, at the end of the day you still gotta pad up and play the game!

I am glad we lost to MT now, because I don't think it would of had the same effect if we would of came back and won that game 24-20. I don't want to get too excited 3 games in but this Stephenville team has the talent and potential to be one of best Jacket teams since the last state title team. If they progress like they have been and stay lucky on the injury front, we will be playing wherever they decide to host the state championships.

Brownwood 2010 was very good, lost to Carthage in the 3A semis. Had a few weaknesses. D-line to name one. Carthage man handled Brownwood up front and if it weren't for the Brown/Shipley deep threat combo, Carthage would have destroyed Brownwood. Carthage was the better team. Ran all over Brownwood and could throw it well.

Stephenville 2010 was equally as good IMO, lost to Aledo in the 4A quarters. Had a few weaknesses. Secondary to name one. They were a more balanced team than Brownwood's.

If Stephenville and Brownwood would have played later in the season.. say quarterfinals even though they were in diffenrent classes, it probably would have been the other way around. Just a humble opinion though. ;)

The Bearcats (12-2) will now prepare for their challenge against Corsicana (Corsicana, TX). The Tigers come into the non-league challenge with a 13-1 record. In their last challenge, Corsicana trounced Kilgore (Kilgore, TX), 42-21, in a non-league challenge.

Truth be told it was mutual by both coaches. They didn't want to play each other in non-district if they were gonna be in same classification and region. Before the season I would of put a near 99% chance they would meet in the playoffs but with Big Springs' resurgence I am not so sure. There must be another Tannehill coming through.
