Don't forget that offense dominating the clock. Defense was great! Even with a sick starting defensive lineman. Starting center out w hurt neck all game. Back up did well. Very proud of our boys! Yeah #8!! What a game son!

yeah Matt, our defense did a great job keeping the ball in front of them..those SW players could really burn in space..they will be dangerous in the 4a playoffs for sure!

#8 was movin the pile like Thor!! when you thought he was stopped, all you could see was a pile of red jerseys moving another 6-7 yards!! #51 was taking on those big lineman like a tasmanian devil out there..they couldnt get a handle on him.

51 was a little outsized today, but he's got heart and you can't teach that.

Cobra and Defense 51... Alvarado looks good this year... real good.

Here is my take on the game:

This was a good win against a good offensive team.
Alvarado offense dominated the first half. The o-line, running back play, and Leger two pass catch TD's were exceptional. One mistake on first possession was a fluke where we fumbled back to our own 15 yard line.
Alvarado offense the second half was good. Had a few ball controlled drives that ate up the clock but stalled in the red zone twice. Our kicking game for PAT's and FG's needs a lot of work. We need points when we get to the 11 and 15 yard line and must make our PATs. The Kick return game did not look good at all.
Passing game came up big in the first half when we needed it in the red zone. Second half, we did not look as sharp.

Defense was exceptional the first half. Without that turnover on our own end, I don't think Southwest scores in the first half.
Second half I would describe as a bend but don't break effort. Southwest QB killed us running the ball the second half. Made a couple of good passes where their outstanding wide out was just too fast for us. Defensive backs played a good game. When they did complete some big passes our DB's were right there. They were just good plays. Mcneil came up big several times with some big interceptions. Linebackers and dline contained when they got in scoring position. The stats are going to show Southwest racked up close to 400 yards I imagine. But the stats that count are points.

This was a very good test for us. Good experience against a pass oriented team. We will need that bend but don't break defense later in the year especially against Stephenville. I would say after todays performance our offensive is progressing to the ball control style that we have come accustomed to playing. Our run defense has some weaknesses we need to work on which I'm sure the coaches will highlight this week in practice. DB's did well not letting the big play over the top. Defense is progressing to that shutdown style we need to make a deep run in the playoffs.

We need to win the next few games handily and continue to improve before Stephenville and Glen Rose. Looks like were in for another good run.

Anyone else including SVILLE who watched this one, please comment. District 7 is shaping up to some real good matchups in a few weeks.

they had 379 tot yds to be exact..your assessment is pretty darn good..their QB seemed suprized when he dropped back and WRs wernt WIDE open..their Oline was big and well coordinated yet still had trouble with our Dline..im liking what i see from our D!! #8 was running like a freight train today.

Hardy didn't go down on first contact, broke several tackles , and really had a great game. I would like to see us swing pass more to Hardy and Mcneil out of the backfield. Man after a while, the defense is just stacked up on the line and we need to get our backs out isolated on some linebackers and db's. I just don't think one on one our backs go down easily. I'm sure Dixon will keep adding on plays as we go. Were just spoiled to some great play the last three years, that anything short of a perfect game looks sloppy.

I left at half and was a little surprised by the score because Alvarado dominated SW in the 1st half.

First about FWSW, they are one of the better FWISD teams I have seen in a while, probable about the same caliber as the 2008 Dunbar team Stepp. Rhodes is the real deal. I was a little underwhelmed by Harris at QB. I was expecting more polish with this being his 3rd year. Still a good athlete back there but kinda sandbox at times throwing the football. He missed several reads IMO. Defensively SW was pretty solid in the back 7 they got man handled up front by Alvarado.

I was impressed with the Indians from the 1st half. They have a big physical OL, 2 good RB's, and of course West is a solid QB, and with only 3 passes thrown all 1st half I didn't get to see enough to make a judgement on the passing game.

Defensively the front 7 of the Indians are very solid. Physical upfront and flow to the football really well. The secondary played a soft shell leaving quite a bit of room in the middle of the field until they got in the redzone and tightened up.

Alvarado has a solid solid football team. The only differences from last years finalist team that I saw were, I didn't see a homerun threat on offense and the secondary didn't appear to be as good as last years Indians.

I agree. Not a "true" home run hitter. But a balanced ball control type team. Will play well against those HR hitters. Keeps em off the field. A lot like Katy.

There are some that believe this Glen Rose squad is as good or better than the Derek Thompson led Tiger team that went to the quarters in '07. 7-3A definitely seems to be top heavy this year.

You do know that Dixon coached at Katy and has two, I think, state championships with them, right?
