I know that's right, both can ruin a good run!!! But knowing Wylie, everyman that walks on the field will be ready!!! This will be a great game as always!!! Hope your injured guys heal fast!!!

Both teams will be ready. Steers will have a tough time with rough back to back road games. But they are on fire, no one hurt. This will be one to remember.

I agree for the most part. One exception might be the 2009 game in Graham where Wylie had eight turnovers and lost by three. One of the oddest games I have seen!

Yeah, that was the game that Graham didn't cause any of those turnovers. Wylie just handed the ball to us every time they touched it. Lol

The 2 keys to beating Graham is don't get them in a third down situation because they will make it every time...Also if it is 4th down they will score a touchdown.

From what I heard, Brownwood was the better team talent wise.. but way too many mistakes. Still trying to find their indentity. Several long gains called back for stupid penalties. Overthrown passes resulting in int's... etc.

The way I look at it is that Graham has little pressure and Wylie well if they lose what will the excuses be.......Graham is focused and poised to come away with a big upset and make a lot more people start thinking about how good they really are. Everyone in Graham knows how good they are and they can get alot better, that's the scary part for the rest of 3A football. Everyone was talking about Brownwood in preseason and since they have been beaten twice now everyone that plays them aren't that good, keep thinking that way these boys will change your minds. Good luck to the Steers

Everyone was talking about Brownwood in preseason and since they have been beaten twice now everyone that plays them aren't that good, keep thinking that way these boys will change your minds. Good luck to the Steers

Graham(2-0)
W 53-7 over Mineral Wells
W 28-7 over Brownwood

Vs.

Abilene Wylie(2-0)
W 31-14 over Argyle
W 42-0 over Bridgeport

Thoughts & Predictions? Both teams have blow-out wins over sub par teams, (MW, Bport) but Wylie has a convincing road win against what was a top 10 team, (2011 finalist) and many expect Argyle to still be in the playoff mix.. while Graham has a road win against a Bwood team that may be having a down year. In any case, we'll find out which team is for real on Friday. ;)

Do the Steers like being under dogs?

We have come to understand that even when we lose two games all year by a combined total of 2 points, Graham will never be given any respect as a power player!!! We don't mind in the least, and prefer it that way!!! If you jump out in the top ten in the rankings it only serves as a distraction trying to hang on to the spot, and another distraction if you get bumped down for whatever the reason!! We like to fly low under the radar and do our job and go on to the next game!!! Our team gets all the hoopla and fan fair win or lose at home! Hard work, team effort, and focus will take us where we need to be! We are The Graham Steers, and yes we like being the under dogs!!!

I like Wylie in this game, but I'm not positive of how strong their ground game really is. That Opening Week night in Argyle, it was SO Hot that it was hard to tell.....just cramps all over the place. Wylie has a good secondary to counter Graham's aerial attack, and has the big Oline to open up running lanes for those backs. I believe Wylie can control the pace of this game with its ground attack, and play good enough D to keep Graham from scoring alot of points. Of course, Wylie will need to put up at least 3 tds themselves to win. That's they way I see it, anyways. Good luck to both of these fine schools this Friday nite in what looks to be great weather to rumble. Argyle goes to Paris to do a little rumbling of their own.

A little about this year's Wylie defense...

http://m.reporternews.com/news/2012/sep/11/wylie-doesnt-skip-a-beat-using-3-4-defense/

In most cases, when an established football program changes schemes unexpectedly, it happens for one of two reasons. Either a coaching change has occurred and prompted a shift in philosophy, or ineffectiveness on one side of the ball or the other has necessitated one.

So when Wylie coach Hugh Sandifer announced over the summer that this year's team would be basing out of a 3-4 defense after limiting opponents to just 19.6 points per game over five consecutive playoff seasons using the 4-2-5, he was — at least to some degree — bucking convention.

But with the way Wylie has started the season, limiting Argyle and Bridgeport to a total of 14 points and 244 yards in a pair of impressive wins, it's virtually impossible to question the move.

After watching the way their players have rewarded their decision to pull the trigger, Sandifer and his staff certainly aren't.

"In the spring, we sat down and thought what would be the best way to get some of these kids on the field that we felt like could run a little bit," Sandifer said. "And we felt like changing a little bit of our scheme would allow us to get a few more of those guys out there.

"So far, I think our kids have done a great job adjusting to a new scheme and our coaches have done a good job in coaching and teaching."

The decision, longtime Wylie defensive coordinator Clay Martin said, was really a pretty easy one. All it took was a look at the Wylie roster.

With an abundance of speedy linebacker/strong safety type players and a relative dearth of beef up front, it was just a matter of getting the best 11 players on the field.

"We felt like this change would not only allow us to do a lot of the same things that we'd been doing but would also fit our personnel a lot better," Martin said. "I think any time you can add speed to your defense it's obviously going to have some benefits. This alignment has allowed us to do that, and our personnel really dictated that.

"We had some kids that were linebacker, strong safety types, a number of them that could run to the football. That, in and of itself, has made a huge difference."

Also making a big difference was the fact that the new scheme was introduced in the spring.

That gave the Wylie players several months to learn the subtleties of the 3-4 defense and allowed them to come into fall camp prepared to fulfill their roles within it.

"No doubt, getting a jump on it in the spring had huge benefits for us here in the fall," Martin said. "Obviously there are some changes in alignment and some changes just in technique and responsibilities those guys had to learn."

You wouldn't have known there was a learning curve, though, by watching the Bulldogs' first two games. Against Argyle and Bridgeport, Wylie surrendered just 124 rushing yards and 120 passing yards, while forcing five turnovers.

"On defense, I think we've done a pretty good job of holding their running game to pretty much nothing," said inside linebacker Jake Linn, who has been a catalyst for Wylie with 12 total tackles, one tackle for loss, a sack and an interception. "I think the credit for that goes to the new defense."

The early returns, which also include 14 stops behind the line and no opposing plays of more than 20 yards, have certainly been positive. And though not surprised by his team's defensive performance, Sandifer has been impressed.

"I was really pleased with the way we tackled in the first game, and I think that would have been the case no matter what type of defense we were in," Sandifer said. "But I do think being in our new scheme allowed some guys to stand up and run to the football a little better.

"I think we're definitely where we needed to be, and I'm not saying I'm surprised, but I'm glad that we've made that progress in these first two games."

And perhaps scariest for opposing offenses, such as the Graham one the Bulldogs face this week, there's still room for the Wylie defense to improve.

"We can always get better, faster and stronger," Linn said. "If we just work hard every week, you never know how good we'll get.

Looking forward to this one! Wylie always brings it and Graham has probably it's best team since the semifinal team. This has been a great matchup to watch for the last several years and this years looks to be the same. I think these teams are so evenly matched that it will come down to the turnover battle. Graham wins that battle and wins the game 28-21.

Yep, it's always exciting to play a team and a town that you have alot of history with. Honestly, nobody really knows how good they are this time of year, Wylie and Graham are two good examples of that. We don't know because we don't know how good Argyle actually was. My guess is that they were very overrated. And, Graham doesn't know how good Brownwood actually is. It's just hard to measure after 2 games. The smoke will start to clear these next few weeks. For Graham and Wylie obviously it'll be a fun game because both teams and communities are excited about the 2-0 start. Can't wait. Graham DOES suck though...... just sayin:taunt::taunt:

In a battle of two evenly matched teams, you have to look to the intangibles. Wylie is at home. Graham's coach is probably good but he's not in the hall of fame - Advantage Sandifer and Wylie. Wylie sees this game for what it is - a non conference game that in reality means very little. They will be loose and prepared with a defense that has as much overall speed as Graham will see this year (until the playoffs).

Wylie 28
Graham 14.

Graham (2-0) at No. 5 Wylie (2-0)

7:30 P.M. TODAY BULLDOG STADIUM KEAN 105.1 FM

What's riding on this game: Early success has both the Bulldogs and Steers feeling good about themselves, but only one of these teams will remain unbeaten after tonight's game. Up 14-11 in what's become a fun and competitive series between the two squads, Wylie certainly wants to be the team left standing — especially playing at home. But Wylie coach Hugh Sandifer knows downing Graham won't be easy. "Graham's off to a fast start with very impressive wins in their first two games," he said. "They really pose a lot of problems for you when they're on defense and then offensively they throw the ball around and run both. ... So I think it will be a really good football game."

Last week: Wylie routed Bridgeport 42-0, racking up 416 yards of offense while earning its first shutout since 2009. Graham continued its impressive start, going on the road to beat former district rival Brownwood 28-7.

Scouting Graham: Having outscored their first two opponents by a combined score of 81-14, the Steers enter their game against Wylie on quite a roll. Led by quarterback Ben Davis, who has completed 67 percent of his passes for 333 yards and four touchdowns, and tailback Dillon Gonzales (39-244, three TDs), the Steers offense has been extremely efficient offensively. And the Graham defense, which has limited its two opponents to 345 yards while forcing eight turnovers, has fans hearkening back to the school's 2009 state finalist team.

Bulldogs update: As good as Graham has been this season, the Bulldogs have been every bit as dominant. Through wins over Argyle and Bridgeport, the Wylie defense has surrendered just 224 total yards and a pair of touchdowns while notching five take-aways. And on the other side of the football, the Bulldogs have averaged 6.6 yards per play, piled up 43 first downs and finished 11 of their 23 possessions with points (10 touchdowns, one field goal).

What Bulldogs need to do to win: Take care of the football. With a run game that's netted 490 yards in two games, the Bulldogs have proved they can control the football and the clock. But if they get careless, cough the ball up a couple of times and give a strong Graham offense short fields to work with, they could find themselves in a tough hole to dig out of.

Daniel Youngblood's prediction: Wylie 31, Graham 21.

If I was the old ball coach over there in Wylie, I would have 3-4 state titles every 10 years with that many kids to choose from!!:1popcorn:

I was being generous by saying 3 times but since you said it 5 is more like it.Then you'll be surprised at the number of players on our sideline...smallest Wylie team (in numbers) in recent memory...and probably less than what you guys bring.

No excuses here and i am usually not negative towards our team, but. Our coach is our downfall, when your stud WR, that should be your starting QB, is sitting on the bench for alot of the offensive play and only targeted 1 time. That just don't make any sense to me. Again, no kid or dog in the fight, just a Steer fan with an opinion.

Hats off to the kids from wylie y'all have great team and have a long way to go keep playing hard and y'all will be playing football for a long time, slick 50 the steers playing calling and personal selection is a joke. Not a excuse at all this didn't not make the outcome of this game but if they wanna win big games in the future something has to change.

Playing an undefeated Graham team in Fox Sports Southwest's DQ Big Game of the Week, the No. 5 Wylie Bulldogs put together another dominating performance Friday, outgaining the Steers 392-136 in a 31-7 home win.

Wylie, which has outscored its three opponents this season 104-21, used what's becoming a familiar mode of operation to ground the Steers, combining strong ball control offense and stifling defense to pick up another lopsided win.

"One thing they did was they ran the ball well," Graham coach Kenny Davidson said. "If you can run the ball, you can control the clock and take away the possession for the other team. I think that's one thing they did, was they played great ball control.

"I don't know what the time of possession was, but they sure did play ball control on us."

Wylie, which scored all its points in the second and fourth quarters, moved the ball all night. The Bulldogs, who punted just once, ran 72 plays to the Steers' 43 and gained at least one first down on each of its nine possessions.

That started on the game's opening series, which saw Wylie run 10 plays and travel 55 yards before quarterback Taylor Grant had a ball tipped and intercepted by Graham's Hunter Jones.

After the Bulldogs defense forced their first of three three-and-outs, Grant threw another pick before leading Wylie on three consecutive scoring drives.

The first came on the first play of the second quarter, when Wylie's senior signal caller found receiver Paul Goodrich behind the Steers defense for a 57-yard scoring strike.

That made the score 7-0, and after Graham QB Ben Davis threw his first of two interceptions, the Bulldogs added to their lead with a 4-yard touchdown run by Garrett Martin.

Graham, now 2-1, answered with its only score of the game, capitalizing on a third-down Wylie unsportsmanlike conduct penalty with a 14-play, 75-yard drive.

But with 2:44 left in the half following Davis' 2-yard touchdown run, Wylie (3-0) regained the momentum, pushing the ball 64 yards on 11 plays to set up a 22-yard Goodrich field goal on the final play of the first half.

"I thought that was a big drive right before the half, to go down there and get some points, get a little success going and get some confidence back to start the second half," Wylie coach Hugh Sandifer said. "Then, boy, defensively in the second half, I thought we really played good. We made a few adjustments and the kids adapted well to it.

"We had to put some different personnel in due to injuries, and I thought the kids played really good."

Up 17-7 at the half, Wylie dominated the final two quarters.

After forcing a punt on Graham's opening drive of the third quarter, the Bulldogs pushed the ball to the Steers 10 before stalling out on fourth and 1. They then scored on their next two drives to put the game away.

Grant's second touchdown pass of the game, a 3-yard strike to fullback Tye Calhoun, made the score 24-7 with 9:52 remaining. And a 1-yard sneak by Grant with 5:49 left to play capped the scoring.

Graham, which was limited to 20 second-half yards, had just one first down across the final two quarters, and it came on a Wylie personal foul. The Bulldogs, meanwhile, piled up 131 yards in the second half — 77 on the ground.

"I thought, overall, we did a good job holding a good offense to seven points," said Grant, who completed 18 of 25 passes for 206 yards and a pair of scores. "And our offense took advantage when we had the opportunity to get the ball in the end zone."

Added Sandifer: "We wanted to keep the ball away from them because they've had a little success their last drive of the half. And I thought we started out the second half doing a really good job of that."

Actually yes I WAS in the stands and I've been in lots of stands over the years where there is grumbling over coaching decisions. It happens in every fan base at every game. However, I just don't think bashing a coach on a message board is productive nor appropriate. That's just my opinion.

Again, good luck.
