I am ranking where I see the teams right now, not where I think they will be come playoff time. Sealy drops on my list because of injuries to multiple key players that should return in the coming weeks.

Half of the top ten teams in Region 4 come from District 26.

After Smithville's impressive win against Marble Falls, I gotta think maybe they are in the top 5. Hey jrHernandez, is that speedy running back playing again? The one that got hurt in last year's Giddings/Smittyville game. He reminds me of Morris on Wimbo's team. Fast and elusive.

1. El Campo (has beaten I think Waller and Rudder, who we scrimmaged and looked good against. Would like to see Ricebirds play a Navasota or Lamarque team)
2. Giddings (highest ranked "small" school)
3. Wimberley (definitely will be there in the playoffs, will be fine if injury bug stays away)
4. Gonzales (lost a heartbreaker to Bastrop, might just rebound and prove us wrong)
5. Smithville (continuing to impress)
6. Bellville (that Kincaid team must be good, which proves St. Pius is the real deal since Kincaid lost to St. Pius)
8. LaGrange (was impressive win over Columbus a sign of Lagrange's improvement, or Columbus' having an off year?)
9. Yoakum ( good win over Sinton, Bulldogs are tough this year in a tough district)
10. Sealy (due to injuries)

Still need a few more games to shake things out.

Yes He is back and looks in mid season form. He is more dynamic this year & can still fly and take it to the house on any play. Looks like after that big hit he took against yall last year he really worked hard in the weight room and put on some needed Muscle.

I have to repost my list, I left out #7..........and Pudlugger is right, 5 of the top 10 are from District 26, 3 of the top 10 are from District 25, and Wimberley from Diatrict 27 show up on most if not all lists. I know that their are some good teams in these districts, but I would have to believe that there has to be similar strength teams around Region IV..........maybe we just don't hear from posters from those areas. I picked Devine based on other lists and checking the games played so far this year.

I think, despite the recent loss, to have Wimberley out of the Top 5 in the Region is unrealistic.

Well maybe it is or maybe it isn't. This early in the season you have little to go on. Giddings squeaked by LH and Wimberley squeaked by Llano(a team coming in on a 10 game losing streak). then Giddings squeaks by Wimberley. With all these squeakers, how do you tell whether or not either is a top 5 team? Going by strength of schedule LH >Llano. So maybe Wimberley is not a top 5 team right now.

I have noticed that as well, and i agree that our district is the toughest in the region from top to bottom. However, when it is all said and done, only 3 or 4 can remain on this list. We just don't know who else to put in there right now. Once we start beating each other up, we will see who rises and falls at that point. It usually becomes more clear at that point, not always though.

True, it is awfully early. I feel its definite (IMO) that Giddings should be in the top spot, certainly not less than 2nd. El Campo...I dont know enough about to say, only have you guys input to go on. But I understand your point...its hard to tell with the close games. But be sure of this...with enough talent on the team (which we have) and great coaching (which we have) and experience in HOW to win the big ones (which we do)...we will end up the year deep enough in the play offs to be considered AT LEAST in the Top 5 in Region 4, possibly #1 or #2 (I understand this is only a poll taken at this point in time, not where you think the season will end up...but you get my point I'm sure).

What you are seeing is those who want to be the new Guardians of Region 4 jockeying for position...there is no changing of the Guard until the existing Guards are removed from service. And that ain't happened yet!!! We ain't going quietly!!!

Just watched the game replay with Coach Nelms and the Booster Club...here is my takeaway...
Giddings is bigger, faster, stronger (over all) than the Texans...but almost every single team we play in the play offs is just that. No surprise.
Giddings played a good game, and won it fair and square, and deserves all the accolades.
Giddings came within one or two plays of losing that game.
Wimberley played well, but made a couple critical mistakes that the game turned on.
Wimberley hung toe-to-toe with Giddings, never being overwhelmed.
Wimberley is in greaty shape, though we obviously have some areas to work on.
Wimberley will beat Giddings late in the year, if indeed we meet again.

All is ok in State ChampionLand, do not doubt that.
