right now Bridgeport is a work in progress..they have good size on both lines..the soph QB has a very good arm, and the RB is very good. they will be a good team by mid season..just not now... AW by 21 points.

It wasn't pretty for the Bulls last week, and the caliber of the opposition is not going down much by catching Wylie at home this week. Still, I know these kids will bring all they've got for 4 quarters, and maybe even surprise some of these good teams before the season is over. We'll be with them every week win or lose....

I doubt it. Sandifer will usually pull off the dogs after the first possesion of the third quarter... if we are comfortably ahead. We won't score 61 on anyone--that's not necessary. That being said, anyone can have a down game and maybe last week was just B'ports turn. They may be a lot better than most folks think.

I don't know about that last statement....Wylie scored with 20 secs. left against Argyle this past week. I didn't see them taking a knee on that play. Seems to me they were trying to make a statement. No problemo, except that it goes against what was said above. The players played full bore all the way to the end. In any case, going only by last week's games, I'll have to pick Wylie by at least 2 TD's in this one. Of course, Brownwood has played Wylie many times, and got to scout last week's game, also. That may help a little.

Brownwood?? We don't play them for a few weeks. To my knowledge this will be the first time we have ever played
Bridgeport.

Duh, I said Brownwood, but meant Bridgeport. Really? After all these years, Wylie and Bridgeport have NEVER played? I can understand not ever playing Argyle....we have only been playing for about 8 yrs. and only 5 in 3A. I just assumed these 2 schools have played many times before.

Oh, I'm not complaining about the score at the end or the way Wylie played. For the most part the game was dominated on the ground by Wylie's rbs and front line. It was a great first game for this young Argyle team, and the kind of test our boyz need to help them shore up what is gonna be a very good defensive club. The offense could have helped with more time of possession....our D was just flat wore out on that hot night. They were on the field 2/3 of the games minutes, and probably more than that. Most D's will wear out in an early season hot game playing that many minutes. A more consistent offense will really help Argyle immensely. Once we get our qb and skill players clicking, everything will come together much, much better than last week.

The kids wanted to score (don't they always?) as a response--certain Argyle players got pretty 'chippy' (understatement) at the end. I even had an Argyle player's father apologize to me for their behavior. He said "these actions do not reflect the character of our kids or of our school. It will be dealt with on several different levels... "

7:30 P.M. TODAY BULLDOG STADIUM KEAN105.1 FM

What's riding on this game: This is Wylie's home opener, and the Bulldogs will be looking to make a good first impression on those that couldn't make the trip to Argyle last week. If they play the same way they did in their big win over the Eagles, the Bulldogs should give their fans plenty to cheer about. Bridgeport, meanwhile, will be looking to get its season back on track after getting blasted in its season opener.

Last week: The Bulldogs went on the road and dominated then-No. 6 Argyle, outgaining the Eagles 382-151 in a 31-14 win. Bridgeport allowed 41 first-half points in a 64-13 loss at No. 5 Alvarado.

Scouting Bridgeport: The Bulls lost a pair of all-state receivers to graduation and had a quality quarterback transfer out, but they're not without weapons. Running back Gabe Huerta, who rushed for 1,383 yards and 20 TDs a year ago, returns to take some pressure off first-year QB Hunter Gantt, and receivers Blake Arrington, Jacob Kerr and Jared Sturdivant all provide solid targets in the passing game. On the other side of the ball, linebacker Brandon Huff and free safety Chase Collins head a group that will be looking to rebound from a rough first week.

Bulldogs update: Running back Garrett Martin and the Wylie offense got a lot of credit following the Bulldogs' win over Argyle, and deservedly so. But the work done on the other end by the team's defense shouldn't be ignored. Using a three-man front as its base for the first time in years, Wylie limited the Eagles to just 151 yards on 38 plays and forced three big turnovers. Among the biggest heros for the Bulldogs were safety Patrick Walker, who forced a fumble and intercepted a pass, and Shante Brown, who had four tackles (one for loss) and a game-sealing pick in the fourth quarter. Linebackers Jake Linn and Jaxon Bounds also contributed, each tallying seven tackles to lead the squad.

What Bulldogs need to do to win: Play to their capabilities. Wylie showed what it can do last week at Argyle. If the Bulldogs put forth a similar effort today, they should win comfortably. Bridgeport, which has made five consecutive playoff appearances, isn't a bad football team. But last week showed the gap that exists between the Bulls and Class 3A's elite.

Daniel Youngblood's prediction: Wylie 35, Bridgeport 14.
