I am leaving Carthage near the top because they always seem to have a down first week and get stronger fast. Columbia and Navasota might be about equal right now, the jury is still out. Besides that, everybody else looks about right.

I still cant imagine LV not being a top 5 team in the region based on last year, but they really dont WOW you... they just keep getting W's.

I think in the end, La Vega will still be a team that no one wants to see come play offs. First game jitters, maybe? Or, maybe we are not giving Palestine enough credit. It's just way to early to know.

Over the next few weeks, Coldspring plays @ Navasota & La Marque, La Vega will play Stephenville, Sweeny vs Kilgore is looking more interesting now after a Sweeny blow out over Bay City and Sweeny will also play Bellville on September 21.

It's just really hard to know, especially not being able to see all these teams play. I can just speak for Navasota, perhaps a little homerism of sorts, but Navasota looks good right now.

I went to see the La Vega vs. Palestine game.

Looked like two top 10 teams going to the wire in a slug fest. The problem for both teams is neither is consistent enough passing. Palestine and La Vega both had a couple of plays where they had open WR's where either the ball was poorly thrown or the WR just did not come down with the ball.

The La Vega D is good....speed all over the field. Palestine looked really shaky on offense until the second half where they started moving the ball really well on the ground. With a 17-10 lead Palestine had the ball with 10 minutes to go....They fumbled on about a 12 yard run. Few plays later Gober the big back for La Vega punched in a long run to tie it up.

Palestine kicked a 38 yard fieldgoal with 1:10 left on the clock and missed.

In overtime Gober scored on the first play on a 25 yard run.......Palestine responded with a 9 yard run by RB Luckett, and then failed to convert the 2 point conversion on what looked to be a kind of trick play.
