LaMarque by 40 over Ball. A big spread for a rivalry game.

Thanks for posting the list.

The biggest surprise to me is the Melissa/Celina prediction.

I don't think that the Lorena will beat Madisonville by 30 & Salado over Rockdale?

There's always a few kinks to work out with the formula etc, especially early in the season

There's a game missing on there.

Port Isabel vs. Brownsville Veterans.

So his poll is based on a formula/algorithem and not subjective analysis or gut feel ranking?

I wonder if that is how the Vegas bookmakers come up with their lines, at least to start before they start receiving bets.

I think its a combination of both, Carl is secretive with his formula...lol It's usually quite accurate by season's end

That just goes to show how good Melissa is supposed to be this year, but I would be willing to bet Celina puts a little thump thump on the Cards.

LaMarque by 40 over Ball. A big spread for a rivalry game.

Thanks for posting the list.

Ball was 0-10 last year. Not much has changed. I saw them scrimmage Yates last Saturday. They run the triple option and they run the triple option and they run the triple option...

If they get down by 14, put the kids to bed. No break away speed and the Coogs are too quick on defense. I'm thinking 35 - 7 or 35 -10 La Marque. Anyone in the Houston area will be able to catch the game live on The Kube.

BTW-I know it was just a scrimmage but Yates is ranked way too high. They will breeze through HISD during weeks 1 - 10, but in week 11, they'll be done after West Columbia. In fact, all 3A HISD will be done after week 11.

Celina wins by 17+.
Melissa talked too much crap last year after the game was cancelled because of lightening. Bet on the Bobcats to drop a hammer on the Cardinals.

I told Carl I thought Melissa would lose by 2 TDs

Weird to see 0-21 Pearsall favored by four. They're playing SA Memorial though, something's gotta give.

I think you're right...but probably more. I predict 3 on- side kicks and 5 "peal back" blocks that leave Cards players laying all over the field. They will have Celina's full attention.

I'm betting the coaching staff over at Melissa isn't crazy about being so highly ranked, though. They don't need their boyz getting the bighead after last season's glorious 2A SC title. Methinks Celina is just the medicine the Melissa coaches are looking for early on to get the players' attention. And guess what....it'll be some hard medicine to swallow, IMO.

Cuero by 2 over Wharton.

I think it’s fitting that Travis first game as HC for Cuero will be versus Wharton. When Travis first year I think as OC for Cuero a few years ago and he made the call to go for 2 at the end of the game versus the Tigers and we won like 56 to 55.

Is it LaMarque/Ball that is the big rivalry game, or is it LaMarque/Texas city? Or maybe both?

Those were very exciting games.

I don't think there is any way it will be a 40 point game. That rivalry is too fierce. If they played Week 8 maybe it would be close to that (maybe), but La Marque's offense is so young I think it will take them 4-5 games to work the kinks out. That being said, if the other team never scores I think we will be OK.

MF is on the rise, I believe they will be at the top of one of the toughest districts in 4A in the next few seasons.

Don't worry Hook. The Mustangs are a far better team than originally predicted due to the move-in of a blue ribbon qb late last year(Coach Dodge sure is lucky). The game was played close up until the offensive pass interference call killed the 4th quarter drive which took the heart out of the Leps and the Mustangs then scored an easy td to ice the game. I like what I saw in that game with the exception of the turnovers and some weak pass defense (due to an obvious mismatch). I think, as you said earlier, this is fixable. The Leps will come back this Friday.

They won't. Melissa may be a bigger presence in 3A than expected, I didn't think they would win either.
