Controlled Portion: Port Isabel - 4, Brownsville Pace - 0
2 Live Quarters: Port Isabel - 35, Brownsville Pace - 0

This is basically a question of "is Port Isabel that good? Or is Brownsville Pace that bad?"

Port Isabel's defense was dominant. 1 INT and 1 Fumble Recovery during the controlled portion, and 4 INTs (1 returned for a TD) and another fumble recovery during the Live portion of the scrimmage. Port Isabel's offense was able to move the ball both on the ground and in the air, as all of the skill positions look very impressive. The only question mark is the offensive line, as there are only 2 returning starters returning, so there is some youth on the line. If they can get their act together, then this could possibly be one of Port Isabel's better seasons in quite a while.

Next week's scrimmage is against Mercedes (4A) who gave the "Kings of the Rio Grande Valley" (Harlingen) all they could handle in their scrimmage yesterday. We will have a better idea on where Port Isabel stands against a better team.

What's the PI helmet logo these days? Is it lettering or a big ol' tarpon jumpin' out of the water?.....One of the best names in high school football IMO!

Their practice helmets are just blue, no lettering, no nothing. But their game helmets have our logo, which is the pTi. Think of the Texas A&M logo, but instead of A and M, it's P and I.

That's pretty much the sad state of affairs that is Brownsville football.

But at least Port Isabel did what it was supposed to do, and that's blow out a bad football team.

True...I think poor Pace had like 2 total letterman returning

That AND they went through a coaching change in the Spring.

At least PI gets a scrimmage against a better opponent this coming Friday against Mercedes (4A). They played 2 quarters of live action against the Harlingen Cardinals and played them to 24-14, and Mercedes was getting ready to score again before time expired (from what I've heard) so it could easily have been 24-21 Harlingen instead of 24-14.

Mercedes has some decent size, and a good QB this year. Heard good things about their QB from the things I read about that scrimmage. Will be a much better test for Port Isabel before their Week Zero matchup with Brownsville Veterans. (5A)
