If you had the opportunity to coach, what age and sport would you like to coach? If you are, or have been a coach, what is/was your fav age and sport?

If I ever had my own "ship", I think I would like to coach a college or pro football team----not that I have even close to the necessary expertise, but I would sure love to try it just once for a only a few games, or only (1) season, if I could last that long. I'd probably get run off in a hurry nowadays---Vince Lombardi was one of my coaching heroes. :D

It would be a HS football coach. When there is still time and the egos have not fully developed yet.

Coach Rusty Russell was one of the greatest in that situation.

I would like to be your assistant coach. No pay necessary. Willing to work long hours, watch film, evaluate talent, etc.

HIgh school baseball, kinda like in the movie "The Rookie". I can relate to that. I absolutely was in love with playing baseball, even though I played football, and love golf too. For me, baseball has always been my preferred participating sport. I love watching football more, but as a player baseball was dearer to my heart.

All 36 years of my career involved coaching Texas High School football---of course there were other sports I was involved in----but the experience of coaching high school football was by far the most rewarding for me.

To have a team that can actually perform better than their ability will allow on a given Friday Night , due to the desire to win and not accept defeat. To win a game you were not supposed to win is the best part of coaching any sport.

That ain't no joke! I've been coaching my daughter's softball teams since she started playing. That's been five years now, and each year it's been the parents that have been the biggest hinderance to the teams. It can definitely get political, that's for sure. Probably one of the most important things in building a good team is to have the parents' full support. I have yet to see that at more than 75%. They are always at 100% when you start, but it usually ends up with a few unhappy parents. There's always those parents who think favoritism is shown, even when you are tougher on your own kids than you are the others.
