I Noticed that LaMarque dropped from about 1,000 kids in 2010 to about 741 Kids in 2012.
Did they open a new school in the district or is the school district shrinking?

Also, Huffman was growing like crazy when I left the Houston area 10 years ago. They went to 4A for a while, but the past few years the High School has less than 500 kids enrolled, what happened in Huffman?

I read on here was that La Marque student body was three-fourths male, so something happened to the females there. It sounds almost like China.

Wow, I don't know the culture of the school but if there is a lot of fights in the school I UNDERSTAND. War is started because a lot of people and scarce resources.

Yeah, I just read some comments about the problems in LMISD on the web. One poster blamed it on worshiping the pigskin instead of focusing on academics. They cited that as LaMarques football program rose up that everything else went down.

I think football is getting scape goated, programs like Lake Travis, Liberty Hill, Carthage, Celina, Gilmer, Wimberley, Stevenville, Blanco, Euless Trinity, Katy, SouthLake, Cedar Park/Leander..... to name a few off the top of my head. All have quality athletic programs as well as giving kids a good education.

Schools experiencing the problems that LaMarque alledgedly is, usually have poorly performing athletic programs.
It seems like it is more common that good academics go hand in hand with good athletic programs, which is usually the result of a comminity that buys in to the programs and whole heartedly supports their children.
Just my 2 cents.

I was under the impression La Marque was losing a lot of kids because of Hurricane Ike? I didn't know that most of the female student population were moving elsewhere too. That's very odd.

Im sure there are, I wasnt suggesting that LaMarque is all bad, or even mostly bad, Usually in a problem area you have 10% bad and the 90% decent folks suffer for it.
