He had many great roles but many are not familiar with his tv made 1 hour movie called Legend of Granite made in 1973 where he starred as the late great Green Bay Packer football Coach Vince Lombardi. It was great and I hope tv shows it again. It takes place mainly during Coach Lombardi's first two years in Green Bay. Ironically he didn't get to keep up with Mr. Lombardi's success because he was busy making McHale's Navy for tv and then making movies in Europe. But he did a great job in this movie and it was said that several actual Packer players who were hired as consultants were in awe of his performance as their coach. It has also been said that some people before Coach Lombardi became famous told him he looked like the actor Ernest Borgnine.
