Probably

Closer.
0% chance he will be the everyday closer. He will more likely go into the same role that Ogando has and will fill in and could pitch in any situation. Nathan is the closer unless he really starts having issues.

What about Nathan?

Stays the closer. He is more accomplished and he was brought in to be the closer. It isn't even a debate. I suppose that if Nathan has a stretch of pitching on 3 or 4 days in a row, Feliz could fill in for a day or 2 but other than that or in the event of an injury, Nathan IS the closer.

I like the move. Just hope he can avoid the back issues he's had.

That's awesome. Glad to see him go to the Rangers but like someone already mentioned, I hope he doesn't have any issues.

He will have issues....
They didn't hire him to be a starter for the entire year. They just need some help until some of the guys can get rid of some nagging issues. The shortened season for him should help him with his injuries.

you dont sign someone for up to 8 mil to be a stop gap ..he is in rotation rest of year as long as healthy.

By signing Oswalt, the Rangers paid about $4.25 million for protection should
Feliz's elbow injury turn out to be worse than believed.

You can never have too much pitching. Anyone of the starters is a hairs breath from going on the DL every outing.

it is a 5 mil deal with chance to jump to 8

Always been a huge Oswalt fan. I really like his style and he goes right at you with confidence. Sure hope his past injuries don't come back to haunt him. I really hope he can contribute to the Rangers chances of getting a ring.

I do as well. After posting my comment last night that the rest of the pitchers that followed him to the mound faired no better. Oswalt basically took one for the team, pushing him to get 5 innings. Being the veteran he is I suspect he'll bounce right back in his next start.

Oswalt will give the Rangers INNINGS as a starter, have some good starts, and some not so good starts. But he WILL fill the bill, knows how to pitch, and has an offensive juggernaut behind him to keep him on the mound. This is a good addition to the Rangers pitching staff. He's not expected to blow away the opponent, but keep the Rangers in games by pitching INNINGS, 5 or more, consistently. Nolan and JD know what they are doing. This is a good pick up.

I agree. I think that as long as he's healthy, he will contribute and I believe his better days will out-number his off days. He's the kind of guy that with run support, will keep serious pressure on an opponent.
