View Full Version : Sweeny Bulldog Stadium to get turf

SWEENY — Over the summer, Bulldog Stadium will be saying so long to its natural sod turf and hello to the synthetic stuff.

After months of discussion — both among themselves and with members of the community — the Sweeny ISD school board voted 6-1 to spend up to $1.7 million to replace the football field’s natural grass and renovate the running track.

Construction is scheduled to begin June 1st and the football field has a July 30th target date for completion.

The new track isn't expected to be ready before late fall.

In the middle of the field it is going to have the old school dog head with DOGS above it. Endzones will be Columbia Blue with Sweeny in one EZ and Bulldogs in the other. Letters will be in White with Navy outline.

The field should be ready by the end of July (weather pemitting). Also, the schedule has been revised a little bit. The Bay City game will be played in Sweeny this year and in Bay City the following year.
