This week, linebacker Lew Bush succumbed to a heart attack at age 42, becoming the seventh player from that team’s roster to pass of varied causes. Bush was still active in the Chargers organization, serving as a pre-game commentator on the team’s radio broadcasts.
Bush was preceded in dying prematurely by the following:

Linebacker David Griggs died in a Florida car crash in 1995, less than five months after Super Bowl 29.
Running back Rodney Culver and his wife were among the casualties in the 1996 ValuJet crash that plunged into the Everglades. The couple left behind two children and 110 in all died on the doomed flight.
In a sad/twisted irony, linebacker Doug Miller died at 28 after being struck by lightning twice during a Colorado camping trip in 1998.
Offensive lineman Curtis Whitney died a day after his 39th birthday from a drug overdose.
Defensive lineman Chris Mims died at age 39 in 2008 due to an enlarged heart.
Defensive end Shawn Lee passed away earlier this year at age 44 due to heart problems/diabetes.

I can only imagine how horrible life can be for a retired hall of fame caliber NFL player.

Btw, I read that there was another nfl player that shot himself in the chest and in his letter asked that his brain be studied. It was and he had an injury to the brain.

You might be right, I'm sure everybody that takes their own life rationalized it in some way. It is what it is and it certainly isn't right but as a life long Charger fan it is a sad day.

Seau played 19 years in the NFL. Maybe Barry Sanders and Jim Brown knew what they were doing getting out when they did.

I feel sorry for him that he took a permanent solution to a temporary problem. I pray for his parents and the 3 kids he left behind. I am sorry but I have never understood suicide. It touched me when 3 kid's, 2 of them boys my boys grew up with, father commited suicide in the oldest's senior year. I thought it was selfish then and I do now.

I only hope those that commit suicide get to watch what they put their family and friends through before they go to eternity.

Without a suicide note to go along with his actions, it sounds to me like this was done on the spur of the moment for some reason. Or maybe he was just not in his right mental state, suffering from acute depression or something similar going on in his brain. It just seems very strange for a player with a history like he had and a life still full to live out.

When someone takes their own life it doesn't just effect that person it effects everyone around them greater than anything that could be possibly troubling the individual.

Very true, suicide is devastating to the families involved. Sad story!
