I have been several times. We are very talented at the skill positions on offense this year. Our NT Cody Hook set a school record a couple of weeks ago benching 405, he is big guy .

Copied and pasted from jackets website.
This kid is one big dude.:1omg!:

He was listed at 6'3" 265 as a Jr. He is moving from offensive tackle to nose guard.

He has grown a little since last summer when he was 6'3"...

I know over the last few years Celina has had 3 or 4 football players bench press over 400. I cant remember exactly the number but i think last year Celina had 19 players benching over 300 on varsity.

I'm amazed at the size and strength of high school kids these days. Benching 300 lbs. takes alot of strength, but 400-500 lbs. or more is tremendous especially for 16-18 year old kids.

400 pounds is the new 300 pounds. I remember in high school just 12 years ago if you benched 300 you were a beast now 300 is just a decent bench.

I can't even tell you how many times I've read that stephenville is #1 and everyone else is fighting for 2nd. I saw all these predicted scores with blowout after blowout and you guys telling us that 3a doesn't have anyone that can compete.

Im on my phone so I can't link right now but you have to either be 1) joking or 2) blind.

you are just seeing posts by the same person (jacketswarm) - the majority of stephenville folks on this board realize that 3a is no gimme....
and we definitely aren't as obnoxious with our predictions as the brownwood folks were two years ago...

Just curious, are all the lifters using bench press shirts? Lifting raw compared to wearing a bench press shirt can make a huge difference. Those shirts can add 30-50 lbs to a lifter's bench. I have never been to a high school powerlifting contest, do most of the lifters wear the squat suits & bench press shirts?

Yes, the boys are required to wear the bench press shirts while bench pressing at power lifting contest.

When Hayden Baillio was a Sr, we stopped him at 550 because we were afraid someone would get hurt. Of course, he also threw the shot 74' and is a 4 time All American at UT.

There is no such thing as easy Championships. Same goes for Yates in Basketball. If we dont play to the best of our abilities it wont happen if we do then we got a good shot. Plus we need luck and God willing. One thing is a definate 3A just got harder to win for everyone.

It depends on the type of shirt they use. Most shirts that high schools use are the lower grade shirts so they only add about 30-40 pounds. The good shirts can get you anywhere between 75-100 pounds depending on how long you've been lifting, your technique and how you train. Last year a kid from Sealy did 550 at the state meet and benched 435 raw as a junior.

Was that with a bench shirt or raw?

I know last year when Jordan Roos benched 435 it was without a bench shirt, but it wasnt at a lift meet it was in off season work out.

Just him, no "cheater" gear. I once saw him throw 225 over his head with 1 arm. When he showed up at UT, barely 18 (late August birthday), he was the strongest kid on campus. The football coaches were walking thought the weight room early one morning, when he was working out, and their mouths fell open. I'm telling you he is freakishly strong. He is now over 600 on bench.

Are you talking about Baillio if so it's ashame he isn't 3 inches taller so he could play football.

The 3" would probably be more of a help to him, long term, as a thrower. He never had the demeanor to really be an outstanding football player. He was a pretty good HS player but just never played with much fire. He is a really nice young man and it showed on the football field.

The kid is obviously impressive and incredibly strong but we beat them (PP) 60-7...with him on the team. Look for more of the same next year too.

was anyone touching the bar? I know if someone uses their fingers after a lift off it'll add like 20-30 lbs.

1st time in 75 years and Whitesboro is gonna start talking crap.

That kid was on the sidelines with an acl tear along with 11 other starters.

Let's just say it was a long time coming...but not 75 years. Before GA got there in '77, the matchup was pretty even but since then PP has dominated. Before this past season the last Whitesboro win WAS in '77 but the two haven't played every year. I can assure you that what I said PALED in comparison to the trash talking that has come out of PP over the years. It isn't much fun to be the punching bag (or punch line for that matter), is it? I will go on the record now that Whitesboro makes it 2 in a row this fall.

When i was in school i saw Ben Barton bench 445. I think caldwells record was set by Kris Kocurek at 505. He is now the d-line coach for the detroit lions.

Yea, I wish I had been able to attend. When the UIL decided to change the regional track meets from Monday and Tuesday to Friday and Saturday, it created a conflict. Mrs. West had called the UIL to confirm, scheduled the activities and then the dates got changed. Eddie said that there were 18 of his former classmates/teammates there. He only knew about 2 or 3, the rest surprised him. After the HOF festivities, they went to the Country Club and reminisced until about 1:00. He said that he had a great time!
