View Full Version : Who can take the 3A crown out of nowhere this year?

ctown81

I'm just curious. I would like to hear your thoughts about 3A teams that my surprise a lot of people and win the whole thing. Not talking about a deep play off run, I'm talking about taking the title out of nowhere. I fully expect this to be a homer thread. Besides, back in 2008 no one outside of carthage thought they could win it all at the begining of the season and no one outside of Henderson thought they'd win it all in 2010. I would just like to hear about other teams than the usual, Carthage, stephenville, Brownwood, Celina....etc

Out of nowhere team in my area could be Princeton. They have significantly improved every season under that new coach Dillard. The youngest coaches son is supposed to be more talented than the one that was a senior this year. Princeton has always had the talent but never had the program. I counted 190 teams in 3A for 2012 from the realignment schedule. I assume most, if not all of these will be fielding a football team. This must be the largest number ever for 3A, so the possibility of a team coming out of nowheresville to make it to the state final is not as remote as it may seem. Right now, we have been discussing maybe 20-25 schools in the entire class??? A little over 10%.

La Grange moves back to Region 4 next season, last season in Region 4 ( 2009 ) we were a game away from the State Championship game. I am not picking us to win State just saying hopefully we get back into the playoffs and then anything can happen, this will be our overall best team since 2009. Also Coach Kates 3rd full year, so his system should be in place. Last shot for my son , hope it all goes well.

Yes, he could've been talking about Chase, too. Last year's freshman class was deep in talent. Over the next four years there will be lots of speed and talent to choose from in Gilmer. They will continue to win. That's for sure.

As for a team out of "nowhere", my bet is Atlanta will surprise a lot of folks this year. They finally have a good coach settled in, and they've always had talent and speed. They started turning the corner last year. They will give the Buckeyes all they want in the TMF/Rose Stadium Classic opener.

Another homer post, but that is all I know about. Jasper. Another new coach, a Barbay this time. Brother of Coldspring coach, son of former longtime highly successful Newton coach.

Scuttlebutt on the boards and around town is that this years soph/junior classes are the most talented in years. Don't know if that is true, but if it is that is saying something since Jasper currently has two playing in the NFL, one of whom was a first round draft pick.

It is a long shot since Jasper only had a 6-5 record last year (but with a young team & soph QB). But this thread appears to be asking for the long shot. Jasper seems to fit that description this year.

I know Jasper has had some talented athletes in the past, and if this Barbay coaches anything like his brother at Coldspring, that would be a strong formula for success.

Sean Weatherspoon, LB, Atlanta. 17th player taken in draft 2 or 3 years ago. Played at Missouri. Some at Missouri claim he was the best LB in the history of the school.

Carthage is a lond shot.
