This Week's Poll

Well, if you read my whining earlier this week you know that a hot topic with me and my friends are two-way players. This week's polls discusses that.

There is also a bonus poll question, something I am going to try to do more often for the rest of the year... have the 3ADownlow pick a game that I feel is a big one.

Feel free to post or PM and suggest the game of the week, but typically I am going to choose the one that garners a lot of attention on the topics.

As always, the poll closes at kickoff on Friday night.

Last Week's Results

Last week saw the most voters yet for the poll... 53.

The question was what to do with the Div I and II scheme currently used.

18 folks said keep the current method of choosing DI and DII by enrollemnt of the top three finishers.
8 said to formally divide Class 3A into two permanent divisions by enrollment.

and 27 fans (51%) said scrap DI and DII and three-team playoffs and goto either a one or two team playoff system.

thanks,

Wow! The first question almost needed a third optiion and the one I prefer and think works best. Keep the offence and Defense separate EXCEPT in key situation espically if scouting indicates specific tendancies. Example.....you have an excellt 6'3" reciever in a very complex offense. Takes too much time away from practice for him to go both ways. Yet in key situations (opponent in red zone, has a favorite WR target they go to alot who is also tall) repalce your usual saftey who is 5'6" with the taller man. He does not have to spend alot of time practicing "D". After all how difficult is it to say..."They throw to #88 in the red zone. You cover him wherever he goes and use inside leverage to prevent the favorite route which is the slant". Player who try to go both way eventully do get more tired than 1 way player, and sometimes you have to burn a timeout so they can recover for a key play (Example Christian's PAT this last Friday night). If the game had been real close, that is a wasted timeout.

90% of the plays...keep O and D separate. On key plays....use the best atheletes.

early results look like PPHSFan isn't the only one thinking Celina can take this one.

I'd put my best players in on each play...

If you're worried about them getting tired, condition them harder during the offseason and during the practice week...

If they're hurting your team badly in a game if they're too tired, put in a replacement, of course... But before then, you must start your best athletes...

Oh, and Leps by 1...

i feel with small schools, you should go with having your best atheletes on the field. bigger schools have the luxury of a bigger turnout, and thus, being able to keep offense and defense seperate. small schools don't have that, so they have to put their best options out there.

I agree with Shellman. Watching the little Bowie High the other night it didn't look like they had to many spare parts to start with.

Gee, if it is this popular now, how much do you think folks will pay for the book I publish with the poll results for all of this year? LOL :)

I voted for 2 way players because in Ballinger it's a given that most play both ways. We've always competed really well doing this though!!
