Necks (1-1, 12-2)

Sweeny was up 5-4 in the 5th when we added 3 to move it to 8-4. Tough calls went Sweeny's way tonight. The game was much closer than the score indicates.

Tough calls went Sweeny's way tonight.

Can't believe they switched the call on the triple play.. Absolutely CANNOT change that call from out to safe. It's one thing for an umpire to call the runner tagging up safe because he didn't see it (and then having a conference with other umps to get the call right)...t is a COMPLETELY different situation when the umpire sees the play, IMMEDIATELY makes the out call and is overruled by the other umpires. If it is his call and he saw the play (which he better have since made an out call), then let HIS call stand, right or wrong.

Was on the phone with my dad when it happened, and I could not believe that the call was overturned. As soon as they changed it I told my dad, "here comes a hit," and sure enough, the hit came. And it turned out to be a game changer (momentum completely shifted in Sweeny's favor).

I'm not saying that WC would have won the game had the call stood, I'm just saying that it was a terrible, unprofessional call on the umpires part to change it.

It was never his call to make in the first place. His job was to make sure the catch is made in the outfield, and he was nowhere near the tag up when he sprinted over to make the call of the guy getting doubled up at first base. It was horrible umpiring, but they got that call right.

Where you guys got screwed was on the "passed ball" that hit our batter and two runs came in because your catcher assumed the play was dead. Both teams thought it hit our kid, and it should have been bases loaded with those two runs on second and third base.

It was exciting for a while, and the atmosphere is always great when our teams play! Good Luck Necks!

To my knowledge, that statement would only be true if the batter did not swing at the pitch, which i still don't know if it was determined that he did or did not swing. If he did not swing at the pitch and got hit, the ball is dead and the batter is rewarded first base. If he swung at the pitch and was hit with the ball, then the ball is still live and therefore runners can advance. So, does anyone know whether the ump said that he did or did not swing cause i'd like to know if he got the call right myself.

This was my first thought on the phone, but my common sense took over and I assumed that the ump making sure the ball was caught WAS NOT the same ump that made the call on the tag-up appeal.. I guess my common sense was wrong.....which just confirms by point even more: the dudes blew it. If they appealed to him and he didn't see it, the call should have been safe from the get-go, and THEN the conference should have taken place. Calling the runner out without seeing the play is horrible...and then reversing it afterwards just compounds the problem.

I will definately look this one up but i think that your wrong on that. For instance, if the batter swings at a pitch, say in the dirt, and the ball strikes the batter in the leg and passes by the catcher, that is still a live ball therefore, runners may advance. If he does not swing, it's obviously dead and he is awarded first base and runners may not advance.

Batter hit by a pitch and ruled he swung at the pitch is considered a foul ball so a dead ball but if the batter has 2 strikes and is hit by a pitch while ruled he swung is rule a strike and strike out and live ball. If you do find the ruling posted.
