There is a new top Tiger on the prowl over
in El Maton, and that’s Tidehaven ISD’s new
athletic director and head football coach Brent
Mascheck.
Mascheck was named athletic director and
head football coach by a unanimous vote of
the TISD board of trustees at a special meeting
called last Wednesday.
“We’re going to build a competitive program,
both boys’ and girls’,” said Mascheck.
“We’re going to work hard, be disciplined,
have fun and learn to compete.”
Mascheck comes to Tidehaven after seven
seasons as the AD/HC in Columbus where he
compiled a 36-39 record, and resigned from
CISD in December.
Under Maschek, the Cardinals
made the playoffs three times
and were Bi-District champions
and area finalists in the 2010 and
2011 seasons.
Prior to Columbus, he served:
as defensive coordinator/ assistant
head coach for four years at Foster
High School in Richmond; defensive
coordinator for two seasons;
and spent his first four years in
coaching at Luling.
Mascheck replaces Jim Sides
who resigned after three seasons at
the helm to become the Tidehaven
High School princial.
The Tiger football team finished
1-9 in 2011, hasn’t made the playoffs
since 2008, and has not had a
winning season since 1999.
“Several things stood out to us
(the board). One was his commitment
to all students of the school
district – the girls as well as the
boys,” said Tidehaven ISD Superintendent
Andrew Seigrist. “In his
seven years as the AD at Columbus,
he only had two varsity football
players to be deemed academically
ineligible.
“And what really impressed all of us was that
he brings a new, global vision to Tidehaven,”
Seigrist added. “The new vision being the UIL
Lone Star Cup, which spoke volumes to the
committee.”
